11th Annual ICE BOWL at TST This Weekend
Talladega, AL- Fabulous weather is forecasted to meet the annual pilgrimage
of fans and drivers migrating from across the nation to Talladega Short
Track in Eastaboga, AL for the running of the 11th Annual ICE BOWL after a
one week delay due to inclement weather last weekend.
A field or entrants approaching some 300 strong is expected to fill the
grounds of the famed 3/10's mile high banked clay oval this weekend. A
record weekend spectator count is also expected by virtue of the continuous
growth of the event along with the Super Late Model qualifying races now
included on the Saturday portion of the program and excitement that has been
building from race fans across the Southeast.
Action gets kicked off Friday afternoon with an open practice. Grandstand
admission is free for the fans on Defrost Day. Then one of the first major
events of 2002 gets underway with ICE POLE Day festivities on Saturday at
noon, as all divisions will be in action. Saturday's action will be
highlighted by six Super Late Model qualifying races locking in the top 3
from each, along with IMCA Modified action for the IMCA Modified Meltdown
along with the Sportsman, Bombers, and Pony Stocks.
Sunday's program will kick off at high noon with no expected hot laps and
will go straight to B-Main action. If car count warrants there will be
"Triple Threat B-Mains" for the Super Late Models as there will be 3 Super
Late Model B-Mains taking the top 2 from each to round out the 24 car
starting field. There will be B-Mains in all other divisions as well with
the huge car count expected.
As with keeping a fan favorite ICE BOWL tradition, the first ICE BOWL
Championship Main Event of the day will be the 50 lap Super Late Model
event. There will be the traditional front stretch driver introductions with
Super Late Model racing immediately following the introductions.
Last year's 50 lap Super Late Model main event was extraordinary with one of
the most popular drivers in the region Mike Head battling another fan
favorite John Jones of Rock Springs, Georgia in what many call the best ICE
BOWL ever. Head of Ellenwood, Georgia will be back to defend his title and
take on the stellar field of drivers from across the nation trying to make
the prestigious 24-car starting field for the main event.
