WALLACE WINS WILD ATOMIC BLAST

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

KNOXVILLE, TN - Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR rode the high line to
victory Tuesday night in the 50-lap United Dirt Track Racing Association
Pro
DirtCar Series main event at Atomic Motor Speedway. It was an event that
saw position changes in just about every corner of every lap around the
1/3-mile high banked clay oval.

Wallace passed early leader Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC with ten laps to go
to
post his fourth win of the season in the JFR Graphics/Monday Motorsports
GRT/Russell Baker Grand Prix. In the closing laps, Wallace had to hold
off
an inside running 1999 UDTRA Champion Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA to
claim the $10,000 top prize.

"We pretty much committed to running the high side tonight, but I knew Dale
was there at the end down on the bottom of the track," Wallace said. "
We
came up on some lapped traffic at the end of the race, and I guess I got
the
best line on them."

The victory moves Wallace to within $3,000 of becoming the second
Millionaire in UDTRA career earnings.

"I just wish I had half of that money," Wallace said. "I'd bet we've
probably already spent that money just to keep this operation going through
the years, but it feels good just to know that you've accomplished something
like that."

McDowell tried to get a run on Wallace to challenge for the lead coming
down
to the checkered flag, but had to settle for second in the Larry Shaw Race
Cars Rocket/Hatfield Grand Prix. Cook finished third in the English
Mountain Spring Water/Easy Care GRT/Cornett Mustang after leading the first
40 laps of the race.

The defending and four-time UDTRA Champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg,
TN kept his mathematical chances for a fifth title alive with a fourth-place
in the Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Custom Mustang. Dan Schlieper of
Pewaukee, WI took the fifth spot in the Performance Roofing Systems
Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo.

Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN finished sixth in the J&J Steel Barry
Wright/Clements Grand Prix, and Skip Arp of Georgetown, TN was seventh in
the Curtis Equipment GRT/Cornett Mustang. UDTRA point leader Rick Eckert
of
York, PA extended his point lead with an eighth-place finish driving the
Raye Vest Rocket/Cornett Mustang.

Eckert now holds a 72 point lead over Steve Francis of Ashland, KY with
two
races left in the 2001 UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series season. Francis was
challenging for the race lead on lap 26 when he suddenly slowed with a
broken rear-end assembly under his Valvoline/Mopar Performance
Rocket/Stanton Intrepid, and retired for the evening with a 21st-place
finish.

Bloomquist still has a mathematical chance to win the title from the third
spot, as he is 146 points behind Eckert.

Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL brought his C.J. Rayburn Race Cars
Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo home in the ninth spot, and Jimmy Mars of
Elk
Mound, WI rounded out the top ten in the Parker Store Mastersbilt/Pro Power
Monte Carlo.

Cook took the lead from the outside front row starting spot at the start
of
the race followed by Wallace, McDowell, Bloomquist, and Randy Weaver of
Crossville, TN in the East Tennessee Dodge Stinger/Performance Grand Prix.
The first of three caution flags came out on lap three when Shannon Babb
of
Decatur, IL spun his Car City Company/Petroff Towing Rayburn/Dickens Monte
Carlo in turn four.

Cook led Wallace, McDowell, Bloomquist, Weaver, Francis, Arp, Duayne Hommel
of Newport, TN, Eckert and Schlieper down for the restart. When the field
went green, McDowell went to the inside to challenge Wallace for the second
spot. On lap four, Francis found his fast groove right against the inside
wall, and he passed Bloomquist for the fourth spot.

McDowell worked under Wallace for the second spot on the seventh lap, and
Francis moved up to make it a three-car battle for the spot behind the Cook.
The three-wide race for second that saw Wallace back in the position, was
momentarily paused on lap 12 when Mike Gault of Gaffney, SC stalled his
Horton's Truck Repair GRT/Clements Grand Prix in turn one for the second
caution.

The restart saw Cook leading Wallace, McDowell, Francis, Bloomquist, Arp,
Eckert, Schlieper, Johnson, and Erb. Three drivers went to the outside
-
Wallace, Bloomquist and Schlieper - while everyone else seemed to like the
inside groove. McDowell and Francis took that inside line a little more
seriously, as they hugged the inside wall.

Schlieper jumped from eighth to sixth on the restart, and by lap 16 McDowell
and Francis were battle side-by-side on the inside of the track battling
for
the third spot. Francis moved under McDowell for the third spot on lap
17.
On lap 19, Francis pulled along side the rim riding Wallace to challenge
for
the second spot. Schlieper passed Bloomquist for the fifth spot on lap
22.

McDowell dropped Wallace back to the third spot with an inside move on lap
24, as Francis began to close on Cook to give him his first challenge of
the
race for the lead. Francis suddenly slowed off the pace on lap 26 coming
off the second turn, and he coasted to a stop on the front straightaway
on
lap 27 to bring out the third and final caution flag.

Cook lined up as the leader on the restart followed by McDowell, Wallace,
Schlieper, Bloomquist, Arp, Johnson, Eckert, Erb and Hommel in the Stowers
CAT Rental Warrior/Pro Power Monte Carlo. After the green light flashed
back on, Wallace stepped to the outside of McDowell to resume their battle
for the second spot.

Wallace glided past McDowell on lap 30 to retake the second spot, and by
lap
33 Bloomquist had chosen the outside line to challenge McDowell for the
fourth spot. By lap 39, Wallace had reeled in the leader Cook, and he made
the winning pass for the lead on lap 41. Bloomquist passed McDowell on
the
outside to take over the third spot on lap 42.

McDowell got busy in the last five laps of the race running against the
inside wall. McDowell passed Bloomquist for the third spot on lap 46, and
then got under Cook for the second spot on lap 47. McDowell caught Wallace
on lap 48, and began to challenge on the inside.

Wallace caught lapped cars to his inside on lap 49, which monetarily blocked
McDowell. On the last lap, McDowell went to the outside of one lapped car
in turn one, and then bolted to the inside of a second lapped car coming
off
the second turn. McDowell got a strong run on Wallace moving down the
backstretch for the final time.

McDowell tried to charge off the bottom of turn four to challenge Wallace
to
the checkered flag, but it was Wallace taking the win by a car-length.

Wallace made the evening a clean sweep by being the fastest qualifier among
the 63 entrants with a lap in 11.882 seconds for an average speed of 100.993
miles per hour. Wallace then earned the pole position for the big show
with
a win in the first 8-lap Borla Performance Heat Race. Cook won the second
heat to win the Scott Performance Wires $50 Bonus Award.

Bloomquist, Weaver, McDowell, and Arp won other Borla Performance Heat
Races. Randle Chupp of Mooresville, TN won the Renegade Transporters 1st
15-lap Consolation Race in the Biscotti's Restaurant and Winery/Park Ohio
Rocket/Draime Monte Carlo.

Billy Ogle Jr. Of Knoxville, TN won the Polaris ATVs 2nd 15-lap Consolation
Race driving the P&J Builders/Calhoun's Restaurant Warrior/Custom Monte
Carlo. Mark Vineyard of Powell, TN started 25th in the race as a Promoter's
Choice and finished 14th in the Smithbilt Contractors Warrior/Vic Hill Monte
Carlo to earn the JE Pistons Hard Charger of the Race Award.

The next event for the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series will be this Saturday night
at The Rock Speedway in Cumberland, MD for a 75-lap $15,000-to-win main
event.
