WOOD MAKES IT TWO STRAIGHT AT PORT ROYAL
Tim Shaffer all but told Danny Wood he would win Thursday's Pennzoil World
of Outlaws Series "A" Feature at Port Royal Speedway Thursday night.
"You know these things come in pairs," Shaffer said as the Kevin Gobrecht
Rookies of the Year talked before the series' first race at Port Royal in 14
Wood, who won the first "A" Feature of his career at Lernerville Speedway
last Tuesday, made Shaffer's prophesy come true, passing Paul McMahan early
in the 16th lap on his way to claiming his second $10,000 paycheck in three
"I owe it all to (crew members) Rob (Hart) and Cathy (Barrows)," Wood said
graciously. "I think some people may have underestimated this team, and
maybe I underestimated this crew, but when it goes this good there's no
feeling like it. I have my wife behind me 100 percent and my son Danny is
out here, too."
"Man, when we were down the most and needed it the most, it's all come
Wood was eight car-lengths ahead of Mark Kinser when he took the checkered
flag after 30 laps.
"I could feel Mark behind me," Wood said. "I knew he'd be coming to get me
there, but maybe we're proving we can race with these guys. Having Mark
behind me got me pretty clinched up the last couple of laps."
Steve Kinser finished in third place, ahead of Paul McMahan, Jason Meyers,
Danny Lasoski, Andy Hillenburg, Shaffer, Lance Dewease and 23rd-starting
