Tiny Lund Memorial/Salute to America rescheduled for Sept. 23

HARLAN, Iowa (Sept. 17) - The 10th annual Tiny Lund Memorial Nationals - A Salute to America, fell victim to the rain this past weekend and has been rescheduled as a one-day race on Sunday, Sept. 23 at Shelby County Speedway in Harlan.
While no longer a National Modified Series event, it will be sanctioned by I.M.C.A. for national and regional points for the Modifieds and Stock Cars, and national points awarded for the Hobby Stocks.
Heat races, "B" features and "A" features will be run in the three I.M.C.A. divisions, as well as Late Models and ProAms. Entry fees will remain the same and no late entry fees will be charged. Drivers and crews are encouraged to arrive early to register at the track.
The Salute to America was added as a memorial to all who have lost their lives in the terrible tragedy on Sept. 11 at the World Trade Center in New York City, at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and the plane crash in Pennsylvania. Funds will be raised for the Red Cross and Disaster Relief Fund through special drawings and custom decals memori-alizing the events have been donated by Custom Graphics of Harlan will be on all of the race cars.
The inaugural Dwight Wrich Memorial Race of Champions for Grand National Late Models will also be run. The top two cars from each heat race and the track champions from other Grand National Late Model area tracks will qualify with the winner taking home $500 plus a special custom Simpson Helmet and custom trophy sponsored by Kosiski Racing
Products. The race pays $100 to start. Simpson Super Bags will be awarded to each heat winner.
Total race purse is adjusted to a one-day payout of more than $35,000, with the I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modified feature winner taking home $2,500. The Late Model feature winner will take home $1,000 and the Race of Champions pays $500 and a custom Simpson helmet valued at $500, for a total of $2000-plus possible. The I.M.C.A. Sunoco Stock Cars and ProAms will do battle for a $1,000 to win in their respective features and the I.M.CA. Hobby Stock feature winner will take home $500.
Gates open at 1 p.m., hot laps start at 3 p.m., with racing at 4 p.m..
