Dunn Dominates Sprints; James wraps up points title

The excitement never stopped at Auto Tire and Parts Racepark Saturday night as Lee Dunn took the Winged Sprint car feature win, Terry James nailed down the Limited Late Model go, Greg Casey earned his second Pure Street checkers, Open-Wheel Modified ace Chris Hall skated to his fourth main event win and the Garrett Moll/Wesley Short team picked up the cruiser win.

The Winged Sprint car feature saw Lee Dunn standing in victory lane for the third time this year. Dominating the event

Alex Shanks jumped out to the point on the start of the race but could not hold off Robbie Standridge after the first lap. Standridge maintained the advantage for the first three laps when the 66 sprinter of Dunn moved around 12x car on the high side.

Shawn King was holding on to the third position with Keith Burch, Alex Shanks and Steve Zelch Jr. following behind the front-runners.

On the 10th circuit Standridge, making a pass on a lap car, got tangle up bringing out the caution flag and relegating him to the back of the pack. Shawn King moved into second.

Tragedy struck King on the 15th lap while running second when his car made a hard turn into the turn four wall. King walked away from the wreck after being knocked unconscious. Shanks moved into second with Burch in third.

The final 11 laps saw Dunn open up to a half lap advantage on the second place car of Shanks. After a lap two spin Daron Clayton, making his sixth Winged Sprint start, fought his way from the back of the pack to finish a career high third. Zelch Jr. passed Burch on the final lap to finish fourth.

Terry James spoiled Billy Beard bid for his first feature win at the racepark and also Henry Nashís bid for a Limited Late Model points championship. Going into the final night of the Limited Late Model points contest only six points separated the two drivers.

After winning going four for four in win column for the Limited Late Models, Greg King was looking to nail down his fifth win on the year. At the start of the race King quickly jumped out to the lead and looked to be well on his way to the win.

On the 11th circuit after opening up better than a half-lap lead and almost passing the third place car King fell out with drivetrain problems.

Billy Beard took over the lead and maintained the spot for six laps when James moved around the 35 car. James held onto the lead for the final three laps earning his third win on the year and the Limited Late Model Points Championship.

Beard finished second, Charlie Savage claimed third, Scott Gibbs finished fourth and Leo Kiefer rounded out the top-five.

Chris Hall spoiled Andy Tennisonís night as the Sikeston racer passed Tennison on the final lap of the Open-Wheel Modified feature to claim his fourth feature win on the year.

Starting from the pole-position Jeff Parmer jumped out to the early lead. Parmer would try to hold off charges from Andy Tennison but couldnít maintain the advantage. Tennison, on his first visit to the racetrack did not waste too much time learning the faster route around the track.

Parmer, Hall, John Barnett and Terry Johnson were behind the leader battling out for the top-five positions.

On the tenth lap Hall began to study the fastest way around the track looking to pass the leader. As Hall would move low Tennison would hold off the charge. Barnett was behind Hall trying to sneak around him for second.

As the 16th lap rolled around Hall slipped up allowing Barnett to slip around him for second.

When the leader took the white flag Tennison, Barnett, Hall, Parmer and Johnson were all tail to tail. Hall got a run on Barnett and Tennison making the pass for the lead heading out of the final turn, taking the checkered flag.

Tennison held onto second with Barnett earning the third spot, Parmer and Johnson rounded out the top-five.

On what proved to be a challenging track to find a good line, Greg Casey quickly settled his car on the bottom of racing surface and sailed to the victory in the Pure Street division. The win for Casey was his second on the year.

At the start of the 15-lap event Casey leaped out front just ahead of pole-sitter Billy Hopkins. Johnny Houart, Cline Myers Jr. and Dennis Shelby fell in behind the two front-runners at the start.

Looking to the high side Hopkins searched out for a faster line, as did Houart. It didnít take long for Houartís car to adjust to the slick corners as he motored around Hopkins for second.

Casey continued to settle his car on the preferred bottom line cruising to the win, leading all 15 laps of the event. Gideon racer Houart held onto second while four-time feature winner Hopkins layed claim to third. Current points leader Cline Myers Jr. maintained the fourth spot with Dennis "TNT" Shelby picking up another top-five finish.

Garrett Moll and Wesley Short were finally able to pick up the checkers in the Cruiser cars after two second place finishes on the year.

Moll and Short dominated the entire event leading all eight laps after starting from the pole position. The team held off hard charging Wayne Bartels and Jeff Trankler, after the drivers made a final lap dash toward the leaders.

The 777 car finished third with Tim Borgfield and "Big" Al Besher holding onto fourth. Dana Rowland and Melanie VanPool battled from their 11th starting position to end out the night in fifth.
