MIKE CARR GRABS MODIFIED WIN - TIM IULG WINS TQ MIDGET "CHEVALIER CLASSIC" AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY NIGHT
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ In a pair of high speed battles that saw little interruption, Mike Carr of Wall celebrated victory in the Modified stock car 30-lap main event and Tim Iulg of Bridgeton took his first ever Wall Stadium victory in the "Bill Chevalier Classic" for Three Quarter Midgets Saturday night.
Carr rocketed to the lead at the outset of the Modified feature race and was chased the entire distance by Mayetta's Curtis Truex, Jr. Tim Arre of Toms River, was one of the drivers to watch in the contest as he charged from 11th to third without the help of a restart. John Blewett III of Howell and Charlie Kremer, Jr. of Toms River were fourth and fifth. Point leader Jimmy Blewett of Howell was sixth in the Car Parts of Neptune backed event.
Tim Iulg was also the early leader of the 25-lap main event, but he had to fight off point leader Tim Adams most of the way. When Adams spun from contention late in the event, title contender Mike Tidaback of Little Falls moved in to challenge Iulg all the way to the checker flag. At the finish it was Iulg, Tidaback, Don Zrinski, Joe Przybylinski and a recovering Adams wrapping up the top five.
Kenny Reaves of Piscataway fought off point leader Chas Okerson of Freehold to win the 25-lapper for the NGK Spark Plugs Pro Stocks. John Therkildsen of Matawan was third, while Farmingdale's Jim Vogt and Charlie Kremer III of Toms River were fourth and fifth.
Former champ Craig Wallis of Farmingdale fought his way to the front to win the 20-lap main event for the Garage Door Express Street Stocks over a hard charging Greg Gastelu of Jackson. Ken Matlach was third, while point leader John McCormack of Farmingdale and Steve Costello of Lakewood were fourth and fifth.
Tim Buckley of Colts Neck, the two time and defending Monmouth Truck Equipment Truck Series champion, extended his current point lead with his third win of the year for the pick-ups. Chris Olcott was second and Glenn Higgins was third. Jim Tomaino of Eatontown won his first 20-lapper of the year for the Weiss' Boots & Apparel Legend Cars over JJ Jensen and Joe Robertazzi.
Before the racing events began, everyone in attendance was invited to the starter's stand area for a prayer service honoring the victims and the heroes of the tragedies in New York, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania. The large gathering heard an inspirational message from a local religious leader and sang inspirational songs including the National Anthem.
The shore speedway features the Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Street Stocks, Legend Cars, Truck Series racers and the Three-Quarter Midgets will also be on the agenda this Saturday night (September 22). The first qualifying event starts at 7:00 p.m. Racing will continue through the end of September.
Wall Stadium is located on Rt. 34 in Wall Township, N.J. just a mile north of Garden State Parkway Exit 98 and Interstate 195 Exit 35B. The speedway hotline is 732-681-6400 and the internet address is www.wallstadium.com.
