Storm Takes Home 8th Win in 2001 .

Dustin Storm from Prince Frederick Md. continued his quest for the track
championship Saturday night at the Old Dominion Speedway, taking home his
eighth feature win in 2001 in the NASCAR 200 lap feature for the Bailey's
Late Model Stock Cars. Storm took control at about the mark, and easily
took home the win. Starting from his 4th starting spot, Storm elected to just
ride behind early leader Mike Colabucci and McFarland until the end of the
event. Storm made his move, and quickly showed the strength of the TEAM
FAXWORLD machine, stretching his lead on just about every lap. MacFarland
would eventually get around Colabucci, but had nothing for Storm at the end.
Storm crossed the stripe some 15 car lengths ahead of McFarland. Following
Storm and McFarland were Frank Dieny Jr, Colabucci, and Andreas Kestermann.
Storm now lead the points chase over McFarland by 18 point with 3 races
remaining on the schedule.
After just less than 2 years of trying, 2000 Rookie of the Year Jerry Black
from Elkridge Md made it to victory lane, as he beat Willard Lawrence to the
stripe in the wild Redman Fleet Service Grand Stock 50 lap feature. With just
a few laps remaining, the top 3 cars of Black, point leader Jimmy Hardin, and
Chris Donnelly went three wide exiting turn two, with Hardin getting sideways
and falling back to the eighth spot. Donnelly held on, but was passed by
early leader Bryan Short. Black ended up with the lead, and held off Lawrence
at the end. Rounding out the top 5 were Short, Donnelly, and Ray Terczak.
Sean Dawson picked up his fourth win in 5 races, taking home the checkers in
the 30 lap D&K Electric / Aldie Construction Mini Stock feature. Dawson took
the top spot from early leader Keith Machliet, and held off Adam Flis for the
win. In the 25 lap Gaston Automotive Speedway Sportsman feaure, Les Miranda
took home his first ever feature win, passing point leader Dave Gibbs with
two laps remaining. Giibbs tried to retake the lead on the final turn, but
Miranda was able to hold him off as they crossed the stripe.
Next Saturday night, the Old Dominion Speedway oval is closed. Racing action
returns on Saturday night, September 15th with twin 50 lap features for the
Late Models. Also on the schedule is a 30 lap feature for the Legends cars, a
50 lap event for the Grand Stocks, 30 laps for the Mini Stocks, and 25 laps
for the Speedway Sportsman. Lustine Chevrolet Quick Qualifying begins at 5:15
PM, with racing action set to take the green at 7:00 PM.
