Pauch Powers To New Egypt 10th

New Egypt, NJ (September 1) - Darren McCaughey was fast but Billy Pauch was
faster. The Frenchtown, NJ flyer and two-time track champ powered to his
10th Modified victory of the season Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway.
The win was career number 38 in Pauch's track resume, and his fifth
consecutive $2,500 payday at the central Jersey raceway.

"The track was racy on the top and bottom, which really helps when you're
trying to avoid the accidents and the lapped cars," said Pauch. "A big
thanks to the all the fans for putting up with me here," he added, referring
to his recent stranglehold on the Modified victory flag.

Three-time winner Darren McCaughey was a man on the move in the early going
of the 30-lap feature event, pressing leader Ron John Koczon hard before
taking the point on lap 13. McCaughey was moving -- but Pauch knows all the
moves there are to make on the half-mile tri-oval. By lap 16 Pauch had
pushed into second; the next tour he whisked past McCaughey and was gone.
While Darren was able to stay with Pauch as he weaved through traffic, he
was never in a position to challenge. Pauch scored number 10 easily over
McCaughey, Kenny Brightbill, Bob Drayton and Brian Weaver.

An emotional Dominick Buffalino, Morganville, NJ, celebrated his first
career victory in the 20-lap Sportsman main event. Jack Swain was second,
Larry Kline was third, Rich Scagliotta fourth and division points leader
Matt Papiez placed fifth in the Sportsman fray.

Al Cheney III of Cranbury, NJ, extended his hot hand in the Street Stock
division, inking his seventh of the season. Cheney muscled from 16th to lead
by lap 3 and win the 15-lap event handily over Bill Gerber, Rich Page II,
Mario Page and Pat Conaway.

The Herman's Trucking Lightning Lap Awards for fastest lap in a feature
event were won by Pauch (Mods, 18.726), Buffalino (Sportsman, 20.238) and
Cheney (Street Stock, 20.779).

Gene Stravinsky of New Egypt, NJ, claimed $480 and a huge trophy in the
winner-takes-all Sportsman Cash Dash, sponsored by Johnnie's Signs of

A field of 40 youngsters took their turn on the track this night, competing
for trophies in the annual Kids' Big Wheel Challenge, presented by Delran
Auto Body.

Next Saturday, the ladies take to the track as Burnett Racing Engines
presents New Egypt's annual Powder Puff series. A full card of big-block
Modified, Sportsman and Street Stock action completes the program, and
sponsor Bally's Park Place Casino will honor the spectators on Fan
Appreciation Night. Adult admission is $14, children 7-12 are $5, and kids 6
and under are free. For more information, call the speedway at (609)
