LANCE DEWEASE WINS GUMOUT RACE - TAKES GROVE POINT LEAD
Lance Dewease won the 30-lap World of Outlaw Gumout Series sprint car
feature sanctioned Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.
Cris Eash led the first 13 laps despite heavy pressure from Keith Kauffman,
who started alongside him on the front row. Kauffman took over with an
inside move off the fourth corner and Dewease followed him past Eash at the
half way point.
With Kauffman glued to the cushion Dewease, who started sixth, began to
challenge on the inside. They raced side by side through the corners until
Dewease edged ahead on lap 23.
Meanwhile Don Kreitz, Jr. found his rhythm and began to close rapidly on
the leaders. Kreitz passed Kauffman on lap 24 and was closing on Dewease
when a red flag sent him back to third. On the restart Kreitz lost his
momentum and could not get by Kauffman again as Dewease rolled to his fifth
win of the season at Williams Grove.
The victory, worth $5000, was his third of the season in the Gumout Series,
having also won at Port Royal, Pa., and in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
It was even more significant because it was the 47th of Dewease's career at
Williams Grove and tied him with Fred Rahmer atop the all-time winners list.
Dewease also took over the lead in the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass point race.
Rahmer crashed on the first lap of the feature and fell to second place in
the point standings.
Kauffman and Kreitz followed Dewease across the line. Eash settled for
fourth. Dave Ely passed Mike Goodman on the last lap to finish fifth.
