PEARSON WINS HAGERSTOWN FORD CONOCOCHEAGUE 100 AND $10,000
Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL captured the Renegade STARS Racing
Series sanctioned $10,000 to win "20th Annual Conococheague 100" at
Hagerstown Speedway Saturday night.
Starting third, Pearson inherited the lead on lap 28 when race leader Jim
Bernheisel broke a rear-end. Rick Eckert raced side by side with Pearson for
the lead from lap 70 to 80 then fell back but closed to within a half second
of the leader with ten laps to go. Eckert gave one last stab at Pearson with
five to go but couldn't find his way past finishing nearly 1.5 seconds
"We have been struggling so far this season and it sure feels good to get
the win here tonight," said Pearson. "We stayed up on the top where we could
keep our momentum going, we tried low earlier but the top was best for us."
Summer championships and double points were on the line for the other three
divisions as Marvin Winters of Mercersburg returned to victory Lane for his
eighth win in the 20-lap late model sportsman feature, Mike Warrenfeltz of
Hagerstown nailed down his fifth win in the pure stock feature and Marcus
VanMeter of Cresaptown, MD notched his fourth win in the 4-cylinder pure
stock main event.
