Bill Watson wins York Triathlon Modified race at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (August 10) - The Triathlon Racing Series Modifieds visited Raceway 7 on Friday night for the running of the Third Annual "Buckeye Challenge," presented by General Aluminum. Bill Watson from Conneaut, Ohio was the winner of the 40-lap event, for his third career series triumph at as many tracks.

The 40-lap Buckeye Challenge, presented by General Aluminum started with Bill Watson on the pole position, after his victory in the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash. Watson took the lead at the drop of the green flag over outside front row starter Hugo Litwiler, as the first yellow flag would wave on lap 2. With yellow flag laps counting during the first 30 laps, the green would reappear on lap 6, as Litwiler would feel a challenge from sixth starting Mike Hess, who took the position on lap 9. The yellow was back out on lap 10 for a spin by York Series point leader Todd Roncaglione, who is also tied for the Raceway 7 point lead with his brother Ron. Green flag racing would be resume on lap 12, but was quickly aborted on lap 13 by a Mike Samuelson spin.

Back to green on lap 17, Hess moved in to challenge race leader Watson, before caution periods on lap 21 and lap 27. The final restart would see the green flag for the final time on lap 30. Hess would challenge again on the restart, but Watson would begin to pull away from the field. Watson would go on to score the victory, in the event sponsored by General Aluminum. Hess would hold off a challenge from 12th starting Jim Dandy, Jr. to finish second. Litwiler was fourth, with Kevin Decker fifth. Defending race winner and York Series champion Jeff Taylor was sixth, ahead of Fuzzy Stiffler, Jeff Rudrick, Ron Roncaglione, and Todd Roncaglione.
