Garber, McCartney and Ellerman Lead in Path Valley Speedway Wins

Spring Run, PA-Brandon Grandstaff of Strasburg VA won his first Path Valley
Speedway Park feature of the season Friday night in the 270cc Sprint class
with a length to spare ahead of last week's winner, Jimmy Brookens.

The Legends Cars win went to Harry Garber of Barto for the sixth time this
season as he contends for a national Legends points championship. Garber won
by the width of a tire ahead of Butch Brough of Newville and said that,
"Every week the competition here gets tougher and faster," and guessed that
the $2000 purse posted by Star and Eagle Trailers of Newville was a big

Scott Ellerman of Landisburg won his fourth feature of the season in the 305
PA Sprints, and Steve McCartney of Doylesburg won for the fourth time in the
four-cylinder thunder cars less than a length ahead of Kevin Booth of

Steve Bailor of East Waterford in the V-8 Street Stocks and Brian Lessley of
Orbisonia in the Modified Mini Stocks both won their second feature of the
season by more than a turn ahead of the second place car.

Representatives of local Franklin County food banks were on hand to thank
race teams and fans for a pickup load of non-perishable items from the local
food drive that was to continue Saturday.

Next Friday night is the Pepsi Race Night challenge with a $500 to win
special feature for the four-cylinder thunder cars and the Dwarf Cars as the
special guest division. Saturday, August 17, features karts and
four-wheelers in the afternoon and the season's second evening race for the
AMA Motorcycle Short Track series. Sunday, August 18, Path Valley hosts the
Pennsylvania Dirt Karters Association (PDKA) for a series points race toward
the state karting championships.

With thunderstorms to the north, south and west, Path Valley's Two Wheel
Promotions management team started warm-ups promptly at 6:30 and completed
the six features shortly after 10:30.

Racing Action

The Legends feature completed with a hard drive by Brough off turn four on
the last lap as he tried the soft outside groove and came short of beating
Garber by a tire. The front five finishers were Garber, Brough, Larry
Garrison, Donnie Potts and Ray Swank, and the heat race winners were Kip Erb
and Donnie Potts.

Grandstaff worked up to second in the 270 sprints feature by lap three and
finally passed Rodney Glass amid lapped cars in lap 11. After a lap 17
caution regrouped the field he held off Jimmy Brookens to the checkers after
Brookens weaved his way forward from the 12-spot handicap start for the
winner of the previous week's feature. The front five were Grandstaff,
Brookens, Glass, Jim Callahan Jr. and Jeff Furlong, and the heat winners
were Grandstaff, Glass and Callahan.

Brian Lessley took an early lead in the four-cylinder modified mini stock
feature and with only two cautions at laps 10 and 15 to regroup the field he
raced a length or more ahead of Jerry Bard all the way to his win. The front
five were Lessley, Bard, Arlin Brougher, Mark Whitsel and Brian Gordon and
the heat winners were Matt Glinski and Brougher.

Steve Bailor battled Weston Alleman through the early laps in the street
stock feature and after Alleman disqualified for rough driving Bailor raced
a turn ahead of defending champ Doug Hoffman who had his hands full staying
ahead of Randy Patterson. The top five were Bailor, Hoffman, Patterson,
Wayne Hawbaker and Jeff Johnson and the heat winners were Patterson and
Steve Lowery.

The full field of four-cylinder thunder cars crashed and banged until only
18 were left when the first lap was finally completed. Steve McCartney led
all the way as his nephew Jeremy swapped back and forth with Kevin Booth in
the #(M)00 Holstein painted Saab. The front five were Steve McCartney,
Booth, Jeremy McCartney, Mike Beidel and Bob Starr. Austin Kirby, Terry
Smith and Booth won the heats.

Scott Ellerman, who is also a points championship contender when the 305
Sprints race at Hesston alternate weeks, won both the heat race and the
feature and was only threatened as J.R. Fogelsonger took second on lap 17
and began to close on Ellerman's lead. The complete finish order for the
small field of full-size sprints was Ellerman, Fogelsonger, Mike Alleman,
Jason Schultz, Tom Worrick, Jim Roush, Nathan Gramley and Jim Lender.
