TRACK MANAGER BUTCH JONES SUFFERS HEAT RELATED ILLNESS - EAST WINDSOR RACING
CANCELLED FOR THIS FRIDAY NIGHT (8/10)
EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ East Windsor Speedway manager and track preparation head
Don "Butch" Jones, Jr., was stricken with a heat related illness on Wednesday
(8/8/01) and sought immediate medical assistance. Speedway promoter Jack
Simmons also announced that there would be no racing at the half-mile clay
oval this Friday evening (8/10/01) and that competition will resume on Friday
night, August 17.
Jones had been working at the family owned dirt track on Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesday in the 90-plus degree heat preparing the racing surface for
Friday night competition. He was stricken ill around noon on Wednesday.
Racing will pick up the regular schedule on August 17 with the annual
running of the Bill Nichols Memorial Night events, an evening that is
dedicated to a well-respected safety crew member who passed away from natural
causes. The Len Sammons Memorial, which was set for Friday night, has been
rescheduled for September 14.
