Dunn and Hall make victory lane a family affair
Saturday nights racing action at Auto Tire and Parts Racepark found a well-known racing family reach victory lane. The Hall family tradition of winning was highly noticeable at the track with the familiar #66 earning back-to-back wins.
Lee Dunn driving for car-owner Jim Hall put the first #66 in victory lane after dominating the Winged Sprint car feature. Showing he couldnít be outdone Chris Hall, the grandson to Jim, put the second #66 in victory lane in the Open-Wheel Modified class driving a car owned by his dad, James Hall.
In other competition Saturday night Billy Hopkins scored another feature win dominating the Pure Street division along with Henry Nash scoring the Limited Late Model feature.
Todd Rowland jumped out to the lead at the start of the race with Dunn following behind him. Heat three winner Shawn King maintained third with Jeff Davis and Steve Zelch Jr. rounding out the top-five.
Before the third lap was completed Steve Short slowed on the back stretch bringing out the first caution of the evening.
On the restart Rowland again jumped out to the lead with Dunn putting heavy pressure on the leader. Rowland was maintaining a middle grove with Dunn working the entire track trying to find the fastest line.
When lap five rolled around Dunn hopped up to the outside knocking off Rowland for the top position and moving out to a nice advantage. King was still in third, Davis fourth and Robbie Standridge broke into the top-five.
The second caution flag flew on the ninth lap when Tommy Worley Jr. spun in turn two. Worley Jr. was driving the #6 car owned by Dale Campbell after his Winged Sprinter was unable to make the call for the heat race because of mechanical problems.
On the restart Dunn cruised to over a straightway lead over Rowland going the final 16 laps of the event untouched earning his first feature win on the year.
Rowland held onto second position with Shawn King finishing third, Standridge finished fourth and Davis rounded out the top-five.
Making his first Winged Sprint car start Sikeston resident Daron Clayton moved from his 16th starting position to finish seventh on the evening. The 17-year-old rookie sprint car driver was making his first start in full-blown Winged Sprint cars after enjoying a highly successful Mini-Sprint and Kart career Clayton in making the move into the Winged Sprint competition.
The Open-Wheel Modified feature found a familiar name in victory lane with Chris Hall earned his second feature win of the year. Hall scored his second victory on the year after leading the final six laps of the feature event.
After winning the first heat race Terry Baker earned the right to start on the pole position for the feature. Heat two winner Joe Geisler shared the front row with Baker.
On the start two-time feature winner Geisler jumped out to the lead with Baker, Danny Sissom and Hall following. A pileup in turn two would bring out the yellow flag lining the field back up for a complete restart.
The field would see one more caution before the second lap was completed. The 21p car of Adam Parmely suffered a flat tire bringing out the second yellow flag.
On the restart Geisler quickly jumped out the lead with Baker behind him. Baker was receiving heavy pressure from Hall while Terry Johnson was looking to make a move around Hall for third.
Hall moved around Baker on the fifth lap making a clean move and setting his sights on the Geisler. Baker held onto third with Johnson holding onto fourth and Danny Resinger battling to maintain fifth.
The 66 car of Hallís pulled up to the leader and began to look for a way around the leader after trying numerous lines. Hall was able to sneak underneath on the 13th.
Geisler maintained second for one more lap when the 85g car apparently started to suffer mechanical difficulties dropping him further back in the field.
Jeff Parmer made his way from the 16th starting position to move into third on lap 15 and quickly jumped up one move position on the 15th lap stealing second from Baker.
Hall would cruise on to earn his second feature win on the year. St. Mary driver Jeff Parmer finished a hard-fought second after passing 14 cars, Baker completed the feature with a career best finish in the Open-Wheel car with third. Resinger made the last lap pass on Johnson to take fourth with Johnson being scored in fifth.
Billy Hopkins picked up his third Pure Street feature win on the year at the racepark controlling the feature event for the duration of the 15-lap showdown.
Hopkins maintained the pole position for the start of the event with Johnny Houart making up the front row. At the start of the race Hopkins jumped out to a quick advantage with Houart, Dietrich Bollinger and Cline Myers Jr. following.
Bollinger made a quick move on the second circuit to nose around Houart for the second position. Myers Jr. quickly fell in behind Bollinger and also slid around Houart, relegating Houart to fourth position.
On the third lead 14th starting Darrick Bruce took a spin in turn two bringing out the first yellow flag of the evening.
At the restart is was once again Hopkins who maintained the top spot with Bollinger, Myers Jr., Houart and Greg Casey in tow.
Bad luck would strike Casey on the 12th lap when the transmission in his machine exploded leaving him immobile on the backstretch, bringing out the final caution of the evening.
The green flag waved for the three-lap dash for the win. Bollinger put heavy pressure on the Hopkins but could never make the pass. Myers Jr. held onto third position picking up his eighth top-five finish on the year. Last weeks feature winner, Houart, settled for fourth. After starting 12th on the grid Pat Davidson was able to work his way up through the field to finish a respectable fifth place. Chaffee resident Dennis Shelby moved from his 15th starting position passing nine cars to finish the night in sixth.
Middlebrook, MO driver Henry Nash dominated the Limited Late Model feature leading all 20 laps of the feature in route to his first win of year.
Nash jumped out to the advantage on the start after starting from the pole. Charlie Savage jumped in behind Nash and followed him throughout the event.
After starting sixth on the field Terry James was able to work his way up to third by the end of the second lap.
A scary incident involving Leo Kiefer happened in turn one on lap 13 when apparently something in the drivetrain broke causing the 62 car to flip onto the roof. Kiefer was okay but the car was done for the evening.
Nash would lead the entire event picking up his first win on the year, Savage held onto to second with Terry James, Jeff Sloan and Gary Kinder rounding out the top-five.
