Donald Collins Ford Mustang sat on the pole for the Super stock
feature. Collins and Billy Gordon's Chevy drag raced to turn two where
Collins pulled ahead by a whisker. Yellow flew when Joey Humphrey got into
the front wall then slid across the track and caught Ted Pearce. Collins led
the single file restart to turn two where Collins drifted a little high and
Gordon got under him. Turn four Gordon got high and Collins took the lead
back. The leader were into lap traffic as they came out of turn four for the
checkered Collins scored the win in his X-Treme Graphics & Decals Mustang.
Gordon took second, Morel was third till he got caught in spinning lap cars.
Curt Lipsey took third, fourth went to Tim Thornton and Robert Morel got
fifth. Morel and Gordon took heat wins.
Buddy Payne and Walker took the heat wins for Novice. Walker led every
lap from green to checkered. Claude Thigpen ran second till Tudy Jackson took
it over. Walker took the win followed by points leader Tudy Jackson, Claude
Thigpen, Joel Brown, and Buddy Payne.
Robert Ringo shared heat wins for street stock with Tommy Cannon. On the
start Cannon and Ringo ran side by side for the lead then Jamie Hamilton in
his Dale Earnhardt look alike squeezed in the middle. But Cannon pooped out
into the lead. With only a couple laps to go Brad McKey running fourth went
up in a cloud of blue. On the restart it was Cannon with his hands full of
Hamilton. Cannon fought off Hamilton lap after lap and put his Graphx in
motion Thunder Chicken in victory lane for the first time. Hamilton crossed
the line right behind him for second, Robert Ringo took third, Tyrone Taylor
fourth and 6 fifth.
Ryan Whitehead and Zane Barcelona took the heat wins for pure stock.
Whitehead led every lap and took the win. Billy McDaniel moved up through the
field to finish second. Zane Barcelona worked his way to finish third. Hardy
McMillan fourth and Mark Hardwick rounded out the top five.
Twenty five UMP were divided into 3 heats. Greg Freeman, Randy Leonard
and Jeff Martello shared the heat wins. On the start it was a three wide
battle between Greg Freeman, Randy Leonard and Scott Holt. Holt popped out of
the middle like tooth paste out of a tube. Billy Collette moved to second and
tried everything to get the lead from Holt. He tried high and low. After
every yellow it was Holt and Collette again. Holt was smooth and went on to
take his first win at Pike. Collette second, Randy Leonard third, Jeff
Martello fourth and Curtis Vicknair fifth.
Chris Hoyt and Sam Patrick took the heat wins for late models. On the
start Michael Sibley took the lead followed by Patrick. Rodney Sheridan
started 8th and moved into fourth. Up-front Sibley started to loose it and
Patrick passed and took over the lead. Larry Riter moved into third. Rodney
Sheridan running for third got under Curt Lipsey in four and fast as
lightning they wheel hopped and Sheridan wound up sitting backwards on top
Lipsey's car that was still moving. This is the second week in a row Sheridan
has had tough luck after moving to the front then had to retire to the pits.
On the final lap of the race Kevin Watts got the lead for a minute till turn
four when Patrick went under him and Watts rolled to a stop with no motor
running. Larry Riter followed Patrick to the winner circle, David Knight
third, Trevor Boyd fourth and fifth was Kerry Vicknair.
