FORMER UDTRA CHAMPION CLINT SMITH TO HAVE SURGERY ON AUGUST 3
WOODSTOCK, GA - Former United Dirt Track Racing Association Champion Clint
Smith of Senoia, GA will have surgery on August 3 at Northside Hospital
Atlanta, GA to repair facial injuries suffered in the UDTRA Pro DirtCar
Series event at Rome Speedway in Rome, GA on July 22.
The 1993 UDTRA Champion spun his Turkey Creek Snacks GRT/Race Tech Mustang
coming off the fourth turn on the first lap of the second Borla Performance
Heat Race. Smith's car hit the inside wall on the front straightaway before
sliding to a stop against the wall. Smith was briefly unconscious, but
regained consciousness during the extrication.
Smith was transported to a Rome, GA hospital where it was determined his
injuries were a broken cheekbone and a broken nose. He was released from
the hospital on June 23 and consulted with his own doctors in Atlanta to
schedule the needed surgery.
"The doctor told him to expect to stay at least overnight," Smith's wife
Kim said. "He could possibly stay two nights according to how extensive
damage is once he gets in there. Clint and I want to thank everyone that
sent cards and called with there concerns and well-wishes. This was a scary
moment, not just for us, but for everyone in our racing family."
"Clint, Kim, and their family have been in the thoughts and prayers of all
of us with UDTRA, and we wish Clint a quick and complete recovery," UDTRA
President Mike Swims said. "Clint has been a great champion for UDTRA,
a good friend of all of us through the years. We look forward to seeing
back in competition as soon as his doctors clear him to drive."
Well-wishes and cards can reach Smith at 673 Standing Rock Road Senoia,
