Pauch Rolls Lucky 7 Saturday At New Egypt

New Egypt, NJ (July 28) - In a wild, three-way race to the finish line,
two-time division champ Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, NJ, fended off the final
lap bids of both Brian Weaver and Kenny Brightbill to ink his seventh
Modified win of the season Saturday on AMSOIL Night at New Egypt Speedway.

"We had a problem with the fuel pickup in the heat race, and the crew had to
take the whole system apart," Pauch revealed in victory lane, adding, "It's
never easy."

Weaver dominated the first third of the 30-lap Modified feature, until a
crankin' Frank Cozze grabbed the top spot on lap 12. By that time, Pauch had
snaked his way from 16th; Cozze was tough, but Pauch was tougher, edging the
Pennsy ace by a wheel to lead lap 19. It could've been all Pauch in the
final 10, but a three-to-go caution bunched the field. On the restart,
Brightbill - rebounding from earlier brake trouble - swiped second from
Cozze, with Weaver all over him for third. The three-wide race to the
checker saw Pauch score number seven, with Weaver barely squeezing by
Brightbill for second. Cozze and Keith Hoffman completed the front five.

Ryan Godown of Ringoes, NJ, soared from 18th to score his fourth of the year
in the extra-distance Sportsman main. Division points leader Matt Papiez
limped home second, nursing a left-front flat. Phil Meisner Jr. was third,
with Kenny Roth fourth and Donnie Kline fifth. Double points were awarded in
the 25-lap race.

In an edge-of-the-seat Street Stock event, "Super" Mario Page of Beachwood,
NJ, survived a three-car assault and two-to-go restart to ink his second win
in the past three weeks. Al Cheney III, a four-time victor this year,
finished right on Page's bumper, with Pat Conaway third, Pat Freiberger
fourth and Jim Hewitt fifth.

Freightliner of Sussex County/G&G Diesel Inc. sponsored a four-lap Street
Stock Cash Dash that was worth a whopping $1,431.50 to winner Richie Byrne
of Bradley Beach, NJ. The Freightliner dealer started the pot with $200,
inviting fans to up the ante. In a charitable gesture, the dealership
matched all fan contributions, donating the match monies to little Gary
Bozowski, who is battling leukemia. Bob Drayton Sr. and Gene Stravinsky
joined G&G in matching the fan donations, making it a $4,400 fundraiser for
the Going Fast for Gary Fund. Byrne also turned back $100 of his winnings to
the cause.

The Herman's Trucking Lightning Lap Awards for fastest lap in a feature
event were won by Brightbill (Mods, 18.760), Papiez (Sportsman, 19.984) and
Mario Page (Street Stock, 21.184).

The top three drivers in each division shared $1,000 in cash bonuses,
courtesy of Champion Tire of Ringoes. Winners also received cases of AMSOIL
synthetic lubricants and jackets from the Checkered Flag Fan Club.

Next Saturday, Burnett Racing Engines presents Ladies' Night at New Egypt
Speedway, with the women taking the wheel for a series of Powder Puff
events. The boys compete in big-block Modified, Sportsman and Street Stock
action. Adult admission is $14, children 7-12 are $5, and kids 6 and under
are free. For more information, call the track at (609) 758-1900.
