PHILLIPS GETS SECOND WIN OF SEASON, KREASKO SURPRISE WINNER ON CORNWEL TOOLS
NIGHT
For Immediate Release July 27, 2001

STRONGSTOWN, PA - Rodney Phillips of Punxsutawney took his second #1 Cochran
Late Model feature, and the point lead Friday night at Dog Hollow Speedway
on Cornwell Tools night.
Shawn "Sheets" McGarvey of Coalport topped the Hugill Sanitation Limited
Late Models, while Rick Kreasko of Windber was the surprise winner of the
pure stock main, and it was Terry Benton of Duncansville taking the street
stock main.
Jerry Redden and Rodney Phillips led the late models to the start with
Redden taking the lead and third place Dave Satterlee following suite.
Phillips had faded to third and was struggling to stay there as Redden
continued to lead, Satterlee was pressuring him on the inside. A quick
caution on lap 11 slowed the field and gave Phillips one last chance, as he
took to the high side on the restart he worked his way by both Satterlee and
Redden to get his second win of the season. Satterlee eventually tested the
outside on the final lap and took second from Redden. The top five were:
Phillips, Satterlee, Redden, Dave Peterman and John Britsky. Britsky and
Satterlee won the heats.
Eric Corella led Duane Bash into the first turn in the limited late model
feature and was setting the pace. He was beginning to pull away from his
competitors when the third and final caution flew for debris. On the restart
Shawn McGarvey had moved into second from his 12 place starting spot, and he
used the inside groove to take the lead on lap ten. McGarvey darted to the
low side and took the lead. Once in the lead, he was uncontested. The top
five were McGarvey, Corella, Jerry Timchak, Yvette Hahn and Jerry Lower.
McGarvey and Lower topped the heats.
Scott Stein beat Terry Benton into the first turn to start the street stock
main, Stein was setting the pace, with heavy pressure from Benton and Bill
Lyons. While working the sixth lap, Benton made his move in the third and
fourth turns and took the lead. Once out front he began to open a slight
lead and but was not out of harms way. He did hold off the rest of the field
for his second DHS win. Stein was second, with Lyons, Mike Laughard, and Jim
Kirsh completing the top five. Heat wins went to Lyons and Kirsh.
The pure stock feature was close from the start, with Dave Korlewitz
setting the pace early on with pressure from Bill Sigafoes, but Sigafoes
dropped out, leaving Ron Hanna and Johnny Kuzemchak to battle Korlewitz for
the lead, but he spun in the fourth turn on lap 9, but never brought out a
caution. This gave the lead to Hanna who was trying for his first win since
opening night. Kuzemchak was on his bumper, pressuring Hanna the rest of the
way, but working through turns 3 and 4 Kuzemchak dove under Hanna and the
two made contact, sending both cars spinning into the infield. Rick Kreasko
was sitting in third watching everything unfold in front of him, and he took
advantage and took the win, his second straight. Josh Jacoby, Terry Nihart,
John Mazey and Neil Berndt completed the top five. Kuzemchak and Hanna split
the prelims.
