Melis Wins Both EWSC Winged Super Mod A & B Mains!

Plymouth, WI

Tim Melis, Plymouth, captured the checkered flag, in the Winged Super Modified A-Main and B-Main feature

events. The night of racing was sponsored by Tecumseh.

Melis wins B-Main and then trasfers to the A-Main and when the checkered flag dropped, it was Melis, agin who

would capture both mains and travel to the winners circle twice. Milwaukee's Pete Ostrowski, was 2nd followed by

third place finisher, Dave Deicher of Plymouth. The win by Melis , and second place finish by Ostrowski, gave

Ostrowski a 4 point lead over Kenjay Fiedler who finished 5th in the feature. Fast time was claimed by Cedar

Grove's Ben Schmidt

The 15 lap B-Main saw Tim Melis clinch the victory as he led the pack across the finish line for his first feature win

of the night followed by the cars of Bob Enders, Campbellsport, Plymouth's Dave Deicher, Barry Maas of Cascade

would finish 4th in his first time out this season, in 5th place was the number 14 of Jeff Fritz, Plymouth, who returned

to the Winged Super Modifed's this year, Billie Haffeman, Cedar Grove, Tony Wondra, Lomira, and Greenbush's,

Dave Becker would all transfer to the A-Main. In other Mod action former EWSC Winged Super Modified Champion

Billy Kreutz, Kiel, returned to EWSC this week, and in a deal worked out with Bob Brion Racing will pilot the B-93

Winged Super Modified for the remainder of the 2001 EWSC race season.

In the Limited Late Model action the 22 car Limited Late Model feature saw Kohler's, Mark Zimmermann, return to

the winner's circle twice also on Saturday as he had earlier in the evening won his heat race.

The win was a closely fought battle between the Miller Lite Series Limited Late Model's current points leader, Dan

Dippel, Plymouth and Campbelsport's Rick Thompson who is currently in 5th place. Chasing Thompson was Charlie

Schmidt, Cedar Grove, with the fifth place spot going to Jeremy (JJ) Walvoord. Fast time was claimed by Tim

Carmen, Sheboygan; there was no Limited Late Model semi-feature.

The Miller Lite Super Stock feature saw the defending Super Stock Champion, Brian Gilles, Sheboygan Falls, being

chased to the checkers by Super Stock veterans, Donny Kuhlow, Plymouth, Elkhart Lake's Jeff Muehlbauer,

Plymouth's Brian Kaat, and Todd Jensema, Sheboygan Falls.

Gilles, would show no mercy to the pack however and went on to take home yet another feature win to retain the

lead in the Super Stocks Points Series. Fast time was set by Sheboygan Falls' Doug Teunissen again this week.

The Super Stock Semi-feature was clinched by Abe Meinert, followed by Tony Wiltizus, Plymouth's Paul Perronne,

Kewaskums' Dave Holm and Dan Holm.

The Mighty 4's saw 14 cars take to the track. Sheboygan Falls' Jeremy Sauter in the #89 won the race followed by

Scott Baldock # 24, and Rich Miske # 77 of Belgium, was third. This was the first win for Sauter.

Saturday night was also EWSC's Legend Night. Former drivers, along with their families and crews gathered at the

Sheboygan County Fair Park for the 4th yaer in a row. The special event organized by Jeannie Goeden in each of

those years brought members from as far away as Arizona, and California return to the 1/3 mile clay oval. Among

the Legends present was Kermit, and Kenny Schultz, Fuzzy Fassbender, Gib Weiser, Carl Kuehlow, Mike (Mouse)

Melis, Willie Goeden, Ken Markwardt, Lee Leonhardt, Buck Carmen, former trophy queens were also in attendance,

with special honors going to Glen Schad, Gary Laack, and John Born. Sue Born and Jeannie Goeden also received

specail awards for the many hours of volunteer work they give to racing. The racing machines of the Legends were

also on display with as many as eight restored Modifieds on display behind the grandstands throughout the evening.

The vintage race cars also took a parade lap on the track during intermission; the fans were also treated to a

display of vintage racing memorbilia. Special thanks to the events many volunteers, and to the events sponsors:

Goeden's Auto Body, Luedtke Trucking, Ken Jay Fiedler Excavating, Ken Markwardt Sales and Service, and The

Sewing Machine Shop, also a special thank you for the cooperation and support of both the Sheboygan County Fair

Park, and Eastern Wisconsin Stock Cars.

This week the EWSC Limited Late Models will travel to Chilton on Friday, July 27th for a non-points show, and the

Winged Super Modified show that was scheduled for Oshkosh's Speedzone has been canceled.

EWSC will be running a full race program on Saturday, July 28th, with Driver Introductions for EWSC's Mighty 4's,

followed by an end of the night special U.C.P. Mighty 4's Media Race to raise funds for United Cerebral Palsy.

Radio DJ's from Manitowoc, Cleveland, West Bend, Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls have been invited to

participate in the first EWSC Media Race to raise funds for United Cerebral Palsy.
