RANDY CHRYSLER CLAIMS SPORTSMAN FEATURE AT GASPORT SPEEDWAY

A rainy evening was the only way to slow down Randy Chrysler as
he picked up the win at Gasport Speedway in the 20 lap Sportsman feature
Sunday night. Chrysler powered his Troyer mount in a dominating
fashion. The 20 lap main was led to the green by Dwayne Winfield and
John McKenney with Mc Kenney claiming the lead. A nice race for second
between Darrell Ebersole and Paul Gaboury allowed McKenney to stretch
his advantage. Lap 8 Gaboury took the runnerup spot but on lap 10 a
great 3 wide move with Chrysler to the inside would give Chrysler 2nd
place. Just as Chrysler took the lead, the hot spot was back in the pck
as Kevin Sharpe' s car was requiring a fire extinguisher. The restart
would see Chrysleropen up abig lead he would not give up. The final
yellow came out on lap 16 as point leader Rob Pietz spun in turn 1 and
Pat Vigneri would also spin to avoid the contact. Chrysler would do his
"Indian Victory Dance" in his pst race celebration. Brad Rouse finised
2nd followed by Jeff Leggett, Adam Ferri, and Pietz rounding out the top
5. Paul Gaboury and John McKenney won the heats.
Danny Gilbert and Dave Gifford led the 15 lap Pro Stocks to the
green with Gilbert taking the lead for the first 14 laps than Ken
Sargent wo challenged several times took the lead on the final lap for
the win. 5 yellows slowed the pace. Sargent would hold off Gilbert, Jeff
Dayman, Rick Baker and Dave Gifford. Gifford and Baker took the
qualifing heats.
The 15 lap Street Stocks went caution free with Fred Korton and
Aaron Vasas setting the pace with Vasas the leader and Jason Harper the
chaser.Mark Loveland took 3rd on lap 3. Harper took the lead on lap 3
and Loveland 2nd on lap 4. They played chase and catch until lap 11 as
lap traffic in the form of Matt Gillingham as Loveland used Gillingham
to be the middle of a sandwich as Harper was forced to the outside.
Loveland would hold off Harper for the win with Vasas, Chris Crawford
and Lloyd Cichocki rounding out the top 5. Loveland and Randy Beck
picked up the heats.
Rob Wagner and Jake Adair led the 15 lap Mini Stock feature to
the green with Adair holding off several charges by Jamie Gilbert to
pick up his 2nd feature of the season. Blair Young was 3rd followed by
Norm Mark and Adair. Brian Lawrie and Young picked up the heats.
A four cylinder compact car demo derby was held and Chris Embrey
was the winner.
Pit Notes: Racing started an hour and 45 minutes late due to
a late afternoon rain fall but the program was completed by 10:40PM.
Sportsman point leader Rob Pietz missed his heat due to engine problems
and managed a 5th place finish after starting tail and with a spinout.
Pro Stocker Dannny Gilbert picked up the former Darren Kish Pro Stock
and drove it to a fine 2nd place finish after his previous number 400
was totaled elsewhere last week. Next up at Gasport July 29th will be a
regular show plus a mechanics race for the Mini Stock racers. Pit Gates
will open at 4:30 grandstands at 5:00 and racing at 6:30. Laps are for
sale in all classes for the August 5th All Canadian Championships.
Sportsman will go 50 laps $1000 to win. Pro Stocks 30 laps and $500 to
win. Street Stocks 30 laps and $500 to win. and Mini Stocks 20 laps and
$200 to win. All cars must take time trials and the fast times in each
class will receive a bonus and also the leader of the features at the
halfway mark will also take home bonus bucks but to be elligible a 24
car field is required. As mentioned laps are for sale at $20 and a
cuttoff date is July 29 th in order to be printed in the program For
