Barton is Mid-Season Champion at Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (July 13) - Mid-Season Championship events were run at Raceway 7 on Friday night, presented by Rigby Ford. Earning honors in the 25-lap Maloney Tool and Mold Super Late Model event was **** Barton. The Ashville, NY driver scored his fifth feature victory of the season. Other Mid-Season Championship winners were Jay Watson from Conneaut, Ohio in the Jay's Auto Wrecking Steel Block Late Models, Todd Roncaglione from Linesville, PA in the MHC Inc. E-Mods, and Mike Hochschild from Ashtabula, Ohio in the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks.

The 25-lap Mid-Season Championship for the Maloney Tool and Mold Super Late Models belonged to **** Barton. Barton led the entire distance in taking his 27th career Raceway 7 Late Model feature win, leaving him four wins short of tying the All-Time record. Rob Blair challenged in the early laps, but Barton seemed to get stronger as the laps clicked by. With the final caution period of the event coming on lap 10, Barton would pull away from the field in posting the victory. The race for second was an absolute war, with Blair and Jim Dandy, Jr. running the whole second half of the event door-to-door. With a late move to forge ahead, Dandy would claim runner-up honors for his best finish of the season. Blair would settle for third, ahead of tenth starting Bruce Hordusky and Brent Rhebergen. From 19th on the grid, Matt Urban charged to sixth place, as Rusty Whitmore, Chris Hackett, Bill Cunningham, and Ryan Markham rounded out the top ten. Blair, Rhebergen, and Dandy were the Heat winners.

The 20-lap Mid-Season Championship for the Jay's Auto Wrecking Steel Block Late Models went to Jay Watson, for his fourth victory of the season. Watson took the lead on the first lap from pole sitter Doug Eck, and would lead the entire distance surviving three caution periods. The race was for second, as Eck would recover to take the position after falling back as far as fourth place during the event. By five points, Eck will also retain the point lead. One day prior to his 17th birthday, Dave Hess, Jr. raced to a third place finish. From 13th starting spot, Jim Dandy, Jr. advanced to finish fourth, with Bryan Emory fifth. Dandy, Tom Bonanno, and Emory were the Heat winners.

Point leader Todd Roncaglione scored his second straight feature win by winning the 20-lap Mid-Season Championship for the MHC Inc. E-Mods. Taking the lead at the start from the pole position, Roncaglione had things his way through the first nine laps of the event. On a lap 9 restart, Bill Watson came from third on the restart, getting a good run on the outside to advance to the lead on lap 10. Roncaglione kept up the pressure using the inside groove, and when Watson slipped too high off of turn four on lap 14, Roncaglione would pass to regain the top spot on lap 15. A couple of late restarts would give the field a chance by bunching up the field, but Roncaglione would race on to his second victory of the season. Hugo Litwiler made a late charge to finish second for his best finish of the season. Watson would race home third. Driving his third car of the evening, Jim Dandy, Jr. would race from 21st starting position to finish fourth. Dale Applebee was fifth. Heat race winners were John Andrew, Chuck List, and Applebee. The Last Chance Race winner was Dale Fuller.

Point leader Mike Hochschild controlled the entire distance in scoring the victory in the 15-lap Mid-Season Championship for the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks. >From the pole position, just one yellow flag would wave in the event, that coming on lap 3. With the remaining distance run entirely under the green, Hochschild would pull away from the field to score his fifth victory of the season. The battle was for second in the closing laps, as that battle involved three cars. Brian Douglas took runner-up honors by taking the position on the white flag lap. Chuck Sullivan was third, ahead of Darrell Bossard and Darren Buell. Heat race winners were Douglas, Rich Howell, and Hochschild. Mike Andrew was the winner of the Last Chance Race.
