FRANK OUTLASTS THE FIELD TO WIN THE STARS 54TH ANNIVERSARY AT HAGERSTOWN

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Defending STARS Renegade Racing Series National Champion
Chub Frank of Sugar Grove, PA lost the early battle for the lead to Steve
Francis on lap 31, but regained the lead when Francis blew his rear tire with
four laps remaining and held off Steve Shaver to win the 54th Anniversary 50
at the Hagerstown Speedway Friday night. In one of the most thrilling races
ever seen at Hagerstown, there were nine lead changes between Frank, Shaver
and Francis as the three raced three wide through the first half of the
50-lap event. Frank picked up $8,000 for his first STARS victory.

"I lost one last week while in the lead when the ball joint broke and I
hit the wall, so it was good to win one this way. I rather be lucky than
good," said Frank. "Was I worried during the race, Yes, I was just scared the
entire race. I had to try and keep the car from going over the cushion. It
feels good to win this one."

In other action, Marcus Van Meter of Cresaptown, MD won the make-up 4-cyl
pure stock feature from June 30th, his third of the season and Josh Angle of
Stateline, PA recorded his fourth win in the second 10-lap 4-cyl pure stock
mail event.

In the STARS late model feature, Chub Frank took the lead from the
outside pole with Steve Shaver and Rick Eckert right behind. Shaver and Frank
hooked up right away in a duel with Frank running high and Shaver down low.
Frank led the first three laps with Shaver pulling even the next two before
moving slightly in front for laps six through eight. Frank regained the lead
on the restart on lap eight as Jimmy Mars tried to stay close to the leaders
in third. On lap nine, Steve Francis, who started seventh, used the high
outside grove to make his way around Mars for third and joined Frank and
Shaver to race three wide on lap 10. Shaver moved back on top on lap 11 as
the trio were three wide again coming across the finish line on the next lap
with Shaver getting the edge. Frank moved back on top on lap 13 as the three
drivers continued to race side-by-side. Francis took over second on lap 15
and three laps later used the low groove to get on top. But Frank battled
back for the lead on the next lap and held a narrow advantage over Francis,
Shaver and Eckert for the next 15 laps. On lap 31, Francis was able to get by
Frank and began to pull away to a ten-car length lead leaving Frank to battle
Shaver for second.

As the leaders began to put the slower cars a lap down on lap 43, the
third caution of the night was waved putting Frank back on Francis' bumper
for the restart. Three laps later on lap 46, Francis rode up over the cushion
in turn two with a flat as Frank narrowly missed the slowing car of Francis
to regain the lead. Once in front, Frank had his hands full the last four
laps holding off Shaver for the win. Fifteenth starting Davey Johnson came on
strong to take third with Eckert and Mike Balzano rounding out the top five.
Todd Andrews was sixth and was followed by Mars, Dale McDowell, Jeremy Miller
and 20th starting Booper Bare. J&K Toys heat winners for the 54 cars were
Francis, Miller, Rick Aukland and Frank. Frankie Plessinger and Wayne Walls
Jr. won the B-Mains and Earl Pearson set fast time of 18.900 for the
half-mile oval. Eckert won the five-lap dash.

In the make-up 4-cyl pure stock feature, Ronnie Garlock took the early
lead as Josh Angle worked his way to second by the third lap from his ninth
starting spot. Angle and Garlock made contact with both drivers spinning to
bring out the caution before the third lap was completed putting Van Meter in
front for the restart. Van Meter led the rest of the way as Angle came back
from the rear to finish second. Randy Kline, Eric Mellott and Mike Kershner
rounded out the top five.14

In the second 4-cyl pure stock feature, Marcus Van Meter and Josh Angle
made up the first row, but Van Meter was sent to the rear of the field for
jumping on the start. Angle quickly jumped in front on the restart and easily
ran away from the field for the win over Mellott, Tommy Jerin and Kline. Van
Meter came back from the rear of the field to finish out the top five. Heat
winners for the 16 cars were Van Meter and Angle.
