JACK JOHNSON TO REPRESENT UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY AT SUPER DIRT WEEK
VERNON, NY – The ageless veteran Jumpin’ Jack Johnson will represent Utica-Rome Speedway in the Sunoco/A-Plus 358-Modified Championship 150 on October 6 during Super DIRT Week on the Moody Mile at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.
Johnson, 56, won a guaranteed starting spot for the lucrative event by winning the first Twin 20-lap feature on July 1 at Utica-Rome Speedway on Loctite Night. Like a young lion, the legendary driver also claimed the win in the second Twin 20, after coming from the fourteenth starting position in both events to sweep the double features.
Johnson is definitely no stranger to the Syracuse Mile, where he became the very first New York driver to win the Eckerd 200 back in 1979, with two overall victories in the event. Jack is the all-time Super DIRT Week Eckerd 200 (Big Blocks) points leader, and will represent Utica-Rome in the 358-Modified Championship, an event he has never won.
Johnson, the 1982 Utica-Rome Big Block Modified track champion, now has three victories on the 2001 season, behind the wheel of the Witz Roofing/Cobleskill Stone Products/Mopar powered orange No. 12a TEO Pro Car. Heading into the July 8 event, the popular driver holds the points lead over Todd Burley by 14 points.
Utica-Rome Speedway holds DIRT Motorsports sanctioned stock car racing every Sunday evening from May to the end of September featuring the DIRT 358-Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Slingshots. Special events during the season include the Sunoco Race Fuels 358-Modified Super DIRT Series, Advance Auto Parts Big Block Modified Super DIRT Series, as well as the alcohol powered Empire Super Sprints. Racing each Sunday begins at 6pm.
