ECKERT POSTS FIFTH WIN AND SECOND STRAIGHT IN UDTRA CONNEAUT ACTION

CONNEAUT, OH - United Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar Series
point leader Rick Eckert of York, PA drove the Raye Vest Rocket/Cornett
Mustang to his second straight and fifth win of the season Friday night
in
the 100-lap main event at Raceway 7. Eckert took the lead from the outside
front row starting spot on the opening lap and never looked back.

"I guess we picked the right tires tonight, and the track was in the best
shape I've ever seen it," Eckert said. "I kept waiting for Scott Bloomquist
and Chub Frank to pull up along side of me, but they never did."

Defending race champion Chub Frank of Sugar Grove, PA kept his string of
top five finishes going, as he finished second in the Mac Trailers
Rocket/Draime Monte Carlo. Frank was involved in a little controversy with
the defending and four-time UDTRA Champion Scott Bloomquist on lap 71 while
they were battling for the second spot in heavy lapped traffic.

Bloomquist was running second with Frank in third when they got together
in
turn four, and Bloomquist spun to bring out the sixth and final caution
flag
of the race. Bloomquist briefly pitted and returned to the race on the
back
of the pack. For the next 14 laps, Bloomquist drove at a slower pace than
the leaders.

On lap 84, Eckert lapped Bloomquist with no problem, but when Frank tried
to go under Bloomquist, he picked up the pace, and got into the back end
of
Frank's car in turn three. Frank caught his siding race car, and pulled
away from Bloomquist, who parked his car on lap 93.

"I had been following Scott for several laps, and he was running the high
side," Frank said. "When we came off turn four, we were in lapped traffic,
and Scott all of the sudden changed direction and drove down in front of
me."

Polesitter Steve Francis of Ashland, KY brought his Valvoline/Mopar
Performance Rocket/Stanton Intrepid home in the third spot, and Jimmy Mars
of Elk Mound, WI took the fourth spot in the Parker Store Mastersbilt/Pro
Power Monte Carlo.

**** Barton of Asheville, NY started 25th after taking a Promoter's Choice
starting spot. Barton charged all the way up to fourth spot at one point
in
the race, and ended up fifth in The Bolt Place GRT/Malcuit Mustang. Barton
was the JE Pistons Hard Charger of the Race.

Bob Close of Eldred, PA finished sixth in the Close Racing Supply
GRT/Malcuit Grand Prix, and seventh went to Rob Blair of Titusville, PA
in
the Bossard-Crawford GMC Rocket/Draime Monte Carlo. Jim Dandy of Niles,
OH
took the eighth spot in the Uniplast, Inc. GRT/Kightlinger Monte Carlo.

Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR climbed from sixth to fifth in the UDTRA
Pro DirtCar Series point standings with a ninth-place finish in the JFR
Graphics/Monday Motorsports GRT/Russell Baker Grand Prix.

The 1999 UDTRA Champion Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA took a provisional,
started 24th and finished 10th in the Larry Shaw Race Cars Larry
Shaw/Hatfield Grand Prix. McDowell also took over the JE Pistons Hard
Charger points lead from Eckert.

Eckert took the lead at the drop of the green flag followed by Francis,
Mars, Bloomquist and Eckert. On lap five, Blair passed Wallace for the
fifth spot. The first of six caution flags came out on lap ten when Todd
Andrews of Eldred, PA spun in turn two, collecting fast qualifier Randle
Chupp of Mooresville, NC.

The second caution came out on lap 11 when Ron Davies of Warren, PA stalled
on the backstretch. After the restart, Bloomquist tried the high line and
hit the first turn guardrail. While Bloomquist recovered, Blair slipped
underneath for the fourth spot. Bloomquist raced past Blair on the next
lap
to reclaim the fourth spot.

Bloomquist passed Mars for third spot on lap 14, and Frank moved up to
fourth on lap 22. Barton was on the move from the start of the race coming
from 25th to 10th by lap 26. The 1996 UDTRA Champion Freddy Smith of
Knoxville, TN spun in turn four to bring out the third caution flag on lap
29.

On lap 41, the caution light flashed on for the fourth time for debris on
the front straightaway. UDTRA Rookie of the year point leader Joe Izzo
of
LaSalle, IL hit the debris before the caution, part of which came into the
cockpit area of his race car, and the other part damaged the suspension
of
his car putting him out for the evening. Izzo was uninjured by the debris.

On the restart, Bloomquist again went to the outside and passed Francis
for
second on lap 42. Two laps later, Bloomquist closed on Eckert, while Frank
got by Francis for the third spot. At the halfway point, it was Eckert,
Bloomquist, Frank, Francis, Blair, Barton, Mars, Ray Cook of Brasstown,
NC,
Wallace, and Dandy in the top ten.

Barton moved up to the top five on lap 52, and Cook raced up to the sixth
spot by lap 60. Eckert was in lapped traffic by lap 65 and pulling away
from Bloomquist. Six laps later, Bloomquist and Frank encountered the same
traffic that led to their incident in turn four. During the caution flag
for Bloomquist's spin, Cook retired for the evening with a broken left-front
suspension.

Eckert had pulled out to a full straightaway lead over Frank with ten laps
to go, and Mars passed Barton for the fourth spot in the closing laps.

In preliminary action, Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI won the Renegade
Transporters 15-lap 1st Consolation Race in the Performance Roofing Systems
Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo, and Davis won the Polaris ATVs 2nd 15-lap
Consolation Race in the Aurora Systems Rocket/Malcuit Grand Prix.
