posted July 01, 2001 04:48 PM TWO YEAR OLD MOTOR DRIVES PERIGO TO FIRECRACKER 40 WIN After damaging his motor one week ago, Carmen Perigo Jr. pulled out a two-year old motor and drove it to victory in the special Firecracker 40 for super Sportsman Saturday night at Silver Spring Speedway. Perigo charged from his 14th starting spot to take the lead from Duaine Smith on the 18th lap and then drove away from the field for a $2,000 victory. "This is a different motor tonight," said Perigo. "This is the motor I won the championship with two years ago. I haven't run it since then...we broke the oil filter last week and I was scared it hurt the motor, so we put this one in." Perigo drove away from the field and won convincingly over Rich Eichelberger, Jim Shuttlesworth, Ken Carberry and Howie Locke. Scott McCann of Mechanicsburg rebounded from a bad crash one week ago to run away with the victory in the 20-lap late model feature. The win was his first since 1999 and was the first for car owner Bruce Fullerton. Stan Wanner of Hummelstown took the lead from Mike Arnold on lap four of the $500-to-win street stock event and went on to win his second feature of the season by a few car lengths over Arnold, Craig Morgan, Gerry Stutting Jr. and Dene Light.
