GREG LEIBY SCORES SECOND LINCOLN 358 SPRINT VICTORY
Carlisle's Greg Leiby, back from retirement a year ago, and recently
recovering from early season injuries, has found his groove as he picked up
his second win in-a-row in the 20-lap 358 sprint feature at Lincoln Speedway
Saturday night.
And working good it was. After three aborted attempts to start the feature,
the feature was reeled off in non-stop fashion with Leiby passing race-long
leader Rick Horn of Dover for the lead off the inside of the second corner
with 13 laps down and then drove away to win in five minutes, 38.8 seconds,
shattering the 20-lap record by over 20 seconds of five minutes 59.42
seconds set by Hanover's Cris Eash on August 5, 1998.
Chad Trout placed third ahead of Scott Ausherman, Tim Hershey, Eric
Stambaugh (who started 22nd), Gary Gollub, Joe Ilg, Judd Shepard and Alan
Krimes.
In the ARDC Carquest Midget feature, Hanover's Tim Dietz passed Mark
Freeland for the top spot on the 22nd lap and drove away to his second
straight series feature after he had won a wingless feature last weekend at
Mercer Raceway Park to break the four-race win streak of Ray Bull.
Freeland, who led the first 10 laps before Bull led for two and then
relinquished the top spot to Freeland, settled for second place ahead of
Bryan Kobylarz, Marc Dailey, Walt Stearly, Fred Schell, Gary Halteman, Randy
Mausteller, Lew Blair and Kathy Kurtz.
In the thundercar feature, Abbottstown's Craig Wagaman finished the job he
didn't quite complete the week before and led every lap from the pole to win
the 20-lap feature for his first victory of the season at Lincoln and the
12th of his career. Wagaman held off Mike Walls over the entire distance to
win.
