WALLACE WALKS AWAY WITH THIRD UDTRA WIN OF THE YEAR IN NORTH VERNON

NORTH VERNON, IN - Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR held off an early
race
challenge from defending and four-time United Dirt Track Racing Association
Champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN to win the 50-lap main event
Friday night for the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series at Twin Cities Raceway Park.

Wallace earned $10,100 for winning his 24th career UDTRA victory in the
JFR
Graphics/Monday Motorsports GRT/Russell Baker Grand Prix and jumped from
sixth to fourth in the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series point standings after 23
events.

Bloomquist challenged Wallace early and often in the first half of the
race
in his Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Custom Mustang, but lost the leader
after a late race caution with seven laps to go, and had to settle for
second.

"I could see the nose of Scott's car down on the bottom of the track, but
we had a good set up on the car that worked better the longer the race
went," Wallace said. "I was glad to see the late caution flag because
the
lapped traffic was killing me. Once I had clear race track in front of
me,
I knew I would be O.K."

Bob Pierce of Oakwood, IL posted his third straight third place finish
in
only five events with the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series in the Murphy Trucking
Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo.

"I wish we could afford to run more of these races because we keep coming
home in third spot," Pierce said. "I've got some good help this year from
experienced people that have worked with some of the top teams in the
country and that has really helped our program this year."

Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN finished fourth in his first appearance of
the season with the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series in the Southern Indiana Rock
Drilling Mastersbilt/Cornett Grand Prix. Jewell also was the fast qualifier
among the 30 entrants with a lap around the 3/8-mile clay oval in 15.792
seconds for an average speed of 85.486 miles per hour.

Another UDTRA first timer this season, Jim Curry of Norman, IN, finished
fifth in the Hoosier Parts Rayburn/HP Monte Carlo. Scott James of
Lawrenceburg, IN took the sixth spot in the Sheppard Excavating Rocket/AMS
Monte Carlo, and seventh went to 1996 UDTRA Champion Freddy Smith of
Knoxville, TN in the Christenberry Trucking and Farms GRT/Custom Monte
Carlo.

Steve Boley of West Liberty, IA claimed the eighth spot in the Ron Alpen
Ford Mastersbilt/Cornett Mustang, with 1999 UDTRA Champion Dale McDowell
of
Rossville, GA taking ninth in the Larry Shaw Race Cars Larry Shaw/Hatfield
Grand Prix, and UDTRA point leader Rick Eckert of York, PA rounded out the
top 10 in the Raye Vest Rocket/Cornett Mustang.

Eckert now holds a 132 point lead over Steve Francis of Ashland, KY in
the
UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series point standings. Francis was involved in an
opening lap accident, which took his Valvoline/Mopar Performance
Rocket/Stanton Dodge out of contention. Francis was credited with a
19th-place finish.

After three single file heat races, UDTRA and track officials decided to
take the time to recondition the racing surface, which the patient capacity
crowd was rewarded for their patience with a track that lent itself to
side-by-side racing in the main event.

Wallace took the lead from the outside front row starting spot, while
polesitter Bloomquist challenged on the inside. The caution flag was
brought out on lap two when Steve Shaver of Parkersburg, WV spun his
Simonton Windows/Poske's Performance Rocket/Malcuit Monte Carlo in turn
three, collecting Smith, Francis, and Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY.

On the restart, Wallace on the outside, Bloomquist on the inside, and
Pierce right on Wallace's tail all battled for the lead. From lap 10 to
15,
Bloomquist ran side-by-side with the rim riding Wallace, but Wallace's
momentum kept him out front at the start finish line. By lap 25, the lead
pack bunched together and Jewell joined the lead trio to make it a four-car
battle for the lead.

Once Wallace cleared lapped traffic on lap 30, he pulled out to a four
car-length advantage over Bloomquist. With ten laps to go, Wallace was
having trouble lapping Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL, and Bloomquist
closed the gap. The Bloomquist challenge was slowed by a caution flag for
a
flat tire on the car of Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN on lap 44.

On the restart with clear race track in front of him, Wallace pulled out
to
a half straightaway lead over Bloomquist in the seven lap dash to the
finish.

Wallace took the JE Pistons $100 Bonus Award by winning second 15-lap heat
race, and Pierce picked up the Scott Performance Wire $50 Bonus Award with
a
third heat race win. Bloomquist won the first 15-lap Borla Performance
heat
race.

Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH was the JE Pistons Hard Charger of the Race
after starting 22nd and finishing 12th in the McCullough Motorsports
Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo. John Gill of Mitchell, IN won the Renegade
Transporters/Polaris ATVs 15-lap Consolation Race in the Elrod Grain Service
Rocket/Race Tech Grand Prix.

The UDTRA Pro DirtCars return to Twin Cities Raceway Park on Saturday night
for a 75-lap $15,000-to-win main event. Along with the UDTRA Pro DirtCars,
the Twin Cities Raceway Park Street Stocks will also be in action. The
pit
gate opens at 1 p.m., the grandstand gate opens at 3 p.m., and hot laps
are
scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
