63 year old veteran Dover racer Smokey Snellbaker ended his season-long
frustration and bad luck by winning the 25-lap super sportsman feature
Saturday night at Silver Spring Speedway.
Snellbaker, who was back at the speedway after a one-week suspension, has
been fast on several occasions this season, but mechanical failures have
plagued the team.
"We've been having a lot of motor problems," said a relieved Snellbaker.
"The car has been awesome the last four or five weeks since we got another
motor. Jimmy Strasbaugh built this car 10 years ago...this gets the monkey
off my back."
Snellbaker held off fellow veteran racer Howie over the final six laps to
win his 22nd career sportsman feature by several car lengths.
Hummelstown's Dave Eitnier led every lap of the crash-marred limited late
model feature to record his first win of the season.
Newberrytown's Art Schwarz started on the pole and held off Scott Dellinger
by inches to win the street stock feature.
