Blessington bags first Midwest Series career win
AUDUBON, Iowa (June 19) - This time, there was no denying Brian Blessington.
Blessington took the lead away from Jeff Anderson late in Tuesday night's Midwest Motorsports Best of the Midwest Series race at Audubon Speedway. The Breda veteran then held on to the checkers for his first career win in the I.M.C.A. Sunoco Stock Car tour.
Runner-up in the previous series race, on Memorial Day at Boone, Blessington started on the outside of the third row at Audubon and followed a high groove to the front.
Anderson, of Atlantic, and Rick Brown of Kellogg joined Blessington to make it a three-wide battle for first. The trio ran side-by-side for most of a complete lap before Blessington pulled ahead.
Anderson had started the feature last while Brown led past the mid-way point. Brown and points leader Jeremy Chris-tians of Horicon, Wis., rounded out the top four finishers.
Mechanical problems sidelined Mark Elliott of Webster City and brought out the caution flag on lap 14. The re-start brought the field back together and set the stage for the Blessington-Anderson-Brown contest.
Along with first-place money, Blessington pocketed the $200 Champions Challenge from JR Motorsports.
Heat winners were Mike Albertsen of Audubon and George Reeh of Missouri Valley.
The race at Audubon had been rained out and re-scheduled from June 5. The fifth event of the series, the July 10 make-up date at the Arlington, Minn., Raceway, is next on the schedule.
