SCHLIEPER PICKS UP FIRST UDTRA WIN OF THE SEASON IN DAVENPORT

DAVENPORT, IA - Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI picked up his first United
Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar Series win of the 2001 season
Tuesday night in the 50-lap main event at Davenport Speedway driving the
Performance Roofing Systems Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo.

Schlieper started on the outside front row and beat polesitter Billy Moyer
of Batesville, AR off the second turn on lap one. Schlieper used the high
groove around the -mile dirt oval to set sail, as Moyer could never mount
a
challenge in his Petroff Towing/J&J Steel Rayburn/Clements Monte Carlo,
and
the 1997 UDTRA Champion had to settle for second.

Bob Pierce of Oakwood, IL took the third spot in the Murphy Trucking
Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo, and Steve Boley of West Liberty, IA finished
fourth in the Ron Alpen Ford Mastersbilt/Cornett Mustang. Steve Francis
of
Ashland, KY finished fifth in the Valvoline/Mopar Performance Rocket/Stanton
Dodge.

The defending and four-time UDTRA Champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg,
TN was sixth in the Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Custom Mustang, and Brian
Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA claimed the seventh spot in the Seubert Calf
Ranches Rocket/Pro Power Monte Carlo. Darren Miller of Chadwick, IL
finished eighth in the Sterling NAPA GRT/Hatfield Mustang.

UDTRA point leader Rick Eckert of York, PA started 18th and finished ninth
in the Raye Vest Rocket/Cornett Mustang to earn the JE Pistons Hard Charger
of the Race Award.

Eckert broke in hot laps, had a bad qualifying run, had a flat on the last
lap of his heat race, but came back to win the Polaris ATVs 2nd ten lap
Consolation Race. Francis was able to close some more ground on Eckert
in
the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series championship point battle, and has now closed
to within 122 points.

Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR finished tenth in the JFR Graphics/Monday
Motorsports GRT/Russell Baker Grand Prix.

Schlieper led all 50 laps to post the $10,000 win, but behind him there
were several hotly contested battles for position in the race, and in the
point standings. Schlieper's second career UDTRA Davenport win moved him
up
to fifth in the point standings.

After Schlieper took the lead on the opening lap coming off the second
turn, Pierce worked the inside to race Moyer for second side-by-side for
the
first three laps. Boley trailed in fourth followed by Ray Cook of
Brasstown, NC in the English Mountain Spring Water GRT/Cornett Mustang and
Bloomquist, who passed Cook for fifth in lap three.

By lap six, Miller moved up to challenge Bloomquist for fifth, and on lap
nine, Francis had charged from the tenth spot up to 7th, and was engaged
in
a wheel-to-wheel battle with Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound, WI in the Parker Store
Mastersbilt/Pro Power Monte Carlo. Mars and Francis raced around the
outside of Miller for the sixth and seventh spots on lap 12.

Up front, Schlieper had pulled out to a 15 car-length lead over Moyer,
as
they approached the last cars on the lead lap by lap 14. On lap 15, Mars
and Francis were battling again side-by-side for the sixth spot, with
Francis taking the position on lap 17. After running the opening laps of
the race on the inside, Francis stepped to the outside and passed Bloomquist
for fifth on lap 19.

On lap 20 Schlieper was trying to pass the last car on the lead lap, Jay
Johnson of West Burlington, IA in the Ideal Ready Mix Barry Wright/Cornett
Monte Carlo. Schlieper couldn't keep his momentum up trying to pass Johnson
on the inside, so Moyer was able to close the gap to within a few
car-lengths.

Schlieper caught a break on lap 21 when the first of three caution flags
came out for debris in turn three. That moved the lapped cars to the rear
of the field for the restart, and Schlieper had clear race track in front
of
him. On the restart, it was Schlieper followed by Moyer, Pierce, Boley,
Francis, Bloomquist, Mars, Miller, Birkhofer, and Cook.

The 1996 UDTRA Champion Freddy Smith of Knoxville, TN had to use a
provisional to make the show after destroying a car in his heat race. Smith
started 23rd and had charged up to the 14th position by lap 24. Smith
hooked an infield marker tire in turn four on lap 25, which broke the left
front hub on his Christenberry Trucking and Farms GRT/Custom Monte Carlo.

That brought out the second caution flag and Smith was done for the
evening. After the restart, Bloomquist jumped the cushion on the high side
of turn two, and Birkhofer scooted underneath for the sixth spot. By lap
29, it was Moyer and Pierce racing side-by-side for the second spot, and
Bloomquist moved back around Birkhofer for the sixth spot.

Debris in turn three brought out the final yellow flag on lap 32, and
Schlieper lead Moyer, Pierce, Boley, Francis, Bloomquist, Birkhofer, Miller,
Eckert and Mars down for the restart. By lap 35, Wallace moved up to the
tenth spot, and Moyer had opened up a five car-length advantage over Pierce.

With ten laps to go, Schlieper had pulled out to a ten car-length advantage
over Moyer, while Wallace passed Eckert for the ninth spot. On the last
lap, Eckert pulled under Wallace to take the ninth spot at the checkered
flag.

Moyer won the $50 Scott Performance Wire Bonus Award with the win in the
first 10-lap Borla Performance Heat Race. Boley won the $100 JE Pistons
Bonus Award with a third heat race win. Schlieper won the second heat,
and
Pierce won the fourth heat.

Davey Johnson of Greensburg, PA was the fast qualifier among the 43 entrants
with a lap in 20.600 seconds for an average speed of 87.379 miles per hour
in the Rocket Chassis Rocket/Draime Monte Carlo. Matt Miller of Toledo,
OH
won the Renegade Transporters Consolation Race in the Lo Temp Racing
Rocket/Baker Grand Prix.

The next event for the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series will be on Saturday night
for the 3rd Annual $20,000-to-win Masters 100 at Cedar Lake Speedway in
New
Richmond, WI.
