ROBERTS MEMORIAL AND FIREWORKS AT HAGERSTOWN SPEEDWAY BY ISUZU

HAGERSTOWN, MD. The 36th Annual Johnny Roberts Memorial and gigantic
Fireworks display by the Zambelli Family have been a Independence Day
tradition at the Hagerstown Speedway for over 30 years. Once again,
Promoter
Frank Plessinger along with co-sponsors Power Automotive Isuzu and
Hoosier
Tire Mid-Atlantic will host a action packed holiday program for the
entire
family on Saturday night, June 30th. Gates will open for the five
feature
program at 5 P.M. with racing at 7 P.M. Rain date is set for Tuesday
night,
July 3rd at 7 P.M.

The 50-lap Johnny Roberts Memorial is held each year to honor one of

racing's greatest drivers, Johnny Roberts. Roberts captured the NASCAR
modified championship in 1960 and 1961 while driving for Tiny Slaton. He
won
track titles at Westport Stadium, Lanham, Mason-Dixon, Richmond and
Wilmington Speedways. In 1962, he was awarded the "John Naughton" Award
for
Sportsmanship in NASCAR Auto Racing for pulling injured driver Ralph
Rose
from his burning car in a race at Richmond (VA) Fairgrounds. Roberts won
his
last race at Hagerstown Speedway the week before he lost his life at
Lincoln
(PA) Speedway on July 24, 1964. The 50-lap ITSI late model event, which
carries an increased purse and double points, is held each year to honor

Roberts, the only auto racing driver in the Maryland Athletic Hall of
Fame.

Taking part in the memorial program will be the Vintage Race Cars of
the
50's and 60's. Many of the restored cars and their owners raced with
Roberts
nearly 50 years ago. The vintage cars will have qualifying and feature
events.

Joining the ITSI late models will be complete programs of qualifying
and
feature events for the Hoosier Tires Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman,
Ernie's Salvage Yard pure stocks and 4-cyl pure stocks.

The Zambelli Family will round out the program with a fabulous
fireworks
display which will include ground displays as well as aerial. The
display is
one of the best in the Tri-State area and is co-sponsored by Power
Automotive, your Isuzu dealer located on Frederick St. in Hagerstown and
HTMA
of Finksburg.

General admission is $15.00 with children under 12 FREE.

The Hagerstown Speedway is located on U.S. Route 40, six miles west
