Brent Rhebergen wins first career York Triathlon Series Modified race at Tri-City
Franklin, PA (June 17) - Brent Rhebergen from Clymer, NY posted his first career York Triathlon Series Modified event victory on Sunday night at Tri-City Speedway.
The 25-lap feature event started with Rhebergen on the pole position, after his victory in the Coy Brothers Trucking Dash. Rhebergen would take the lead at the start, leaving the battle for second. Jeff Sharp held second for two laps, before yielding to Todd Roncaglione. Jeff Taylor would join the battle, taking second on lap 7. Rhebergen continued to stretch his advantage at the point, and had begun to lap the cars at the tail of the field as green flag racing continued.
The extended period of green flag racing would come to an end, as the first yellow flag of the race would wave on lap 14. Laps 14 and 15 would see the only caution periods of the event, as lapped traffic would mix with the leaders.
Nothing would change at the front of the field over the remaining ten laps, as Rhebergen would power away from the competition to post his first career Triathlon Series victory. Taylor would race home second, with Roncaglione third, and Sharp fourth. Dale Applebee advanced from 16th starting position to finish fifth. Bob Diver, Jim Frontz, Mike Hess, Mike Samuelson, and Fred Bratchie rounded out the top ten.
With 31 York Modifieds on hand, Stahl Plumbing and Air Conditioning Heat race winners were Jeff Sharp, Jeff Taylor, Brent Rhebergen, Butch Lambert, and Todd Roncaglione. The B-Main winner was Jeff Rudrick. Arlan Coy was the winner of the Hendrickson Fabrication and Performance Hard Charger Award, making the charge from 26th starting position to finish 14th.
