RAINS RESULT IN DOUBLE FEATURES AT TRI-CITY SPEEDWAY
by Brian Spaid

June 10, 2001

FRANKLIN, PA ... For the third week in a row, heavy rains invaded Tri-City Speedway and resulted in the cancellation of racing action Sunday night at the Venango County half-mile dirt oval. This time, however, all qualifying races were run.
As a result, double features will be held in all divisions over the next month. For those fans new to the sport, "double features" means that each rain-delayed feature race will be run with a complete show at another scheduled event.
Before the rains came, Brian Swartzlander, Jeff Schaffer, Lou Blaney and Dave Schrader won the heats for the 40-car DIRT Modified field on hand for the BRP Modified Tour 2001 event. John Braymer and George Hobaugh captured the consolation events. Mike Lutz, Jerrod Hull and Ed Lynch Jr. won the Super Sprint heats. In the E Mod heats, Bob McCann, Jim White Jr. and Brent Rhebergen were the winners. Bobby Whitling, Dave Ferringer and Gary Norman won the Stock Car heat races. A capacity crowd was on hand with 119 cars in the pit area.
In accordance with Tri-City's ticket policy, rain checks will not be honored from Sunday's races because qualifications were completed. After all cars have made the starting field, the track is obligated to pay the purse in each feature when the event is held. Fans will be able to visit the track again over the coming weeks to witness these extra features.
"We're disappointed that the fans did not get to see feature events tonight," said Tri-City Co-Promoter Mike Graham. "But, the racers have all qualified for those events. This means that the fans will be able to see double features in their favorite divisions."
The Super Sprint feature will be run on June 24 as part of Fan Appreciation Night. The adult grandstand admission that night will be $5, and all four divisions will be in action.
"We know a lot of fans like the Super Sprints," noted Graham. "We decided to add the double Super Sprint features to the Fan Appreciation Night to thank all of the fans for their support, especially with the wet weather."
The 30-lap BRP Modified Tour 2001 feature for the Titusville Motor & Auction DIRT Modifieds will be run on July 1 as part of the four-star holiday show at Tri-City. That same night, the Giant Eagle/Edward Jones Investments Fireworks Extravaganza will be held.
On July 8, the RE/MAX E Mods will run double features as part of a show that includes all four divisions and the Pittsburgh Circle Track Club Senior Series.
Stock car fans will love the July 15 show as the E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Stock Cars run double features. All four divisions will be in action that night as well as the second Lowry Auto Wrecking Demolition Derby of the 2001 season.
Track officials were still reviewing the schedule to determine when to reschedule the End of School Bus Races at press time.
This coming Sunday June 17th, Tri-City Speedway celebrates Father's Day with the All Stars vs. NCRA Eastern Showdown for the All Star Circuit of Champions and National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) Sprints. The 30-lap event is the fifth race in the 2001 Eastern Showdown and pays $5,000-to-win. It will be the only appearance for the All Stars and NCRA Sprints in Western Pennsylvania this season. In addition, the York Triathlon E Mod Series will be in action with the top stars from the RE/MAX E Mod division racing for the prestigious victory. Gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at the special time of 7 p.m. Time trials for the All Star and NCRA Sprints are expected to take place at 6 p.m. Adult grandstand admission will be $19. Senior citizens receive a $1 discount. Regular student and children ticket prices will be in effect.
