Fiedler Stops Ostrowski's Streak in EWSC Super Mod Action

by Sheila Karstaedt

Plymouth, WI
June 9, 2001

KenJay Fiedler, Sheboygan Falls, took the checkered flad in the 30 lap A-Main, sponsored by B & B Ford,

Sheboygan Falls, ElectroPlating, Fon du Lac, and the Sheboygan Press.

Chuck Tuschl, Whitelaw, took the early lead from the pole. Lap 4 saw the caution flag for an infield tire that

was pushed onto the track. On the restart, it was Tuschl, Cambellsport's Billy Hafemann, and Pete Ostrowski,

Milwaukee, going three-wide down the backstretch with Ostrowski taking the lead. Hafemann would take the

lead on lap 6 with a caution on lap 8 for debris on the track. On the restart it was Hafemann, Ostrowski, Tuschl,

Grafton's Dennies Klumb, and Fiedler.

Fiedler, who was doing double duty by piloting a MSA 360 sprint also, took to the high groove to ride the

cushionand on lap 16 took the lead with a caution coming out a lap later. The restart saw Fiedler being

hounded by Hafemann, Tuschl, Klumb, and Oostburg's Brian Portschy.

The cars of Ben Schmidt, Cedar Grove, Plymouth's Tim Melis, and Klumb got together on the restart

bringing out the yellow. Lap 20 also saw the yellow for another infield tire being pushed on the track.

Hafemann left the track for a flat tire which then saw Fiedler, Portschy, Ostrowski, Tuschl, and Paul Pokorski,

West Bend, on the restart.

On lap 22, Portschy took the lead with the caution comin out on lap 24 for a spin by Cambellsport's Butch

Wondra. The green flag saw Fiedler, Pokorski, and Ostrowski chasing Portschy for a 6 lap shoot out. The

white flag flew and Fiedler took the over the lead and went on to claim the win, snapping Ostrowski's winning

streak.

Following Fiedler to the finish line was Portschy, Pokorski, Ostrowski, Melis, Dave Deicher, Plymouth,

Tuschl, and Hafemann.

Fast time was claimed by Gary Laack, Glenbeulah and the Tuschl Septic Systems Hard Charger Award

went to Portschy.

Pokorski was "a man on a mission" taking a demanding lead from the pole in the 15 lap B-Main. Laps 4, 6,

and 11 saw the caution flag fly with Pokorski holding on to the lead on the restarts. Crossing the line after

Pokorski was Matt VanWyk, Waldo, Portschy, Manitowoc's Kris Hansen, and Tony Wondra, West Bend.

The Limited Late Model feature saw Kewauskum's Chad Espen take the early lead. Scott Haugstad,

Plymouth, would take control on lap 2 and not look back.

The yellow flag flew on lap 11 for yet another infield tire on the track. The restart saw Haugstad being

chased by Cambellsport's RIck Thompson, Henry Dickmann, Sheboygan, Steve Ziegelbauer, Sheboygan, and

Cleveland's Jim Schmidt.

Thompson tried to take over control from Haugstad but bobbled a little in turns 3 and 4 which allowed

Haugstad to go on to the victory. Following Haugstad was **** Hed, Sheboygan Falls, Thompson, Kohler's

Mark Zimmermann, Dickmann, Schmidt, Sheboygan's Keith Borth, and Charlie Schmidt, Cedar Grove.

Plymouth's Dan Dippel took home the honors of fast time and the Bob Akright Memorial Hard Charger

Award went to Borth and Charlie Schmidt.

Terry Goetsch, Sheboygan, took the Limited Late Model semi-feature green to checkered. Following

Goetsch was Waldo's Jason Parrish, Nate Winkel, Oostburg, Waldo's Don Singer, Dave Schaetzer,

Sheboygan Falls, and Kiel's Jeremy Becker.

The Super Stock feature saw Bob Albinger, Belgium, pull out to the lead. Lap 6 saw the cars of

Sheboygan's Bob Duncan and Brian Kaat, Plymouth getting together, bringing out the yellow. Elkhart Lake's

Bradley Ruh, Brian Gilles, Plymouth, and Cleveland's Steve Schad made it three wide behind Albinger. On

lap 12, Schad would take over with Gilles not letting him get away too easy. Gilles continued to chase Schad

to the finish line with Schad finishing a half a car length ahead.

Finishing behind Schad was Gilles, Albinger, Jeff Muehlbauer, Elkhart Lake, Brian Genske, Sheboygan

Falls, and Todd Jensema, Sheboygan Falls.

Fast time went to Plymouth's Brian Kaat and the WHBL Hard Charger Award went to Genske.

Scott Landgraf, Sheboygan, won the Super Stock semi-feature with the only caution of the race coming out

on lap 6. Kiel's Dean Horneck, Paul Perronne, Plymouth, Jeremy Bushman, Kiel, and Sheboygan's Brian

Goetsch followed Landgraf to the finish.

The Mighty 4's took to the track with 5 cars and a Dirt Devil car from PowerCom Park. Rich Miske, Belgium,

took home the win. Our own track announcer, Bill Rood, took to the track for the first time this year in a

Mighty 4. If you see Bill, ask him how he did.

The MSA 360 Sprint Cars made their first appearance of the season at the Sheboygan County Fair Park.

Pole-sitter Jeff Becker, Kiel, took the lead from the start. Laps 6 and 8 saw cautions for spins on the track.

On the lap 8 restart it was Becker, Sussex's Danny Schlafer, Doug Schenck, Madison, Lomira's Tim Haddy,

and Leroy Ostrowski, Milwaukee.

By lap 20, Schlafer was knocking on the door of Becker and would take the lead on lap 21. Laps 22 and 24

saw the yellow for spins by Lomira's Troy Wonda and Scott Conger, Eagle, respectively

Schlafer would cross the line first followed by Becker, Schenck, Ostrowski, Haddy, and Frank Firari, Sussex.

The B-Main was won by Greenfield's David O'Neal followed by Lance Fassbender, Iron Ridge, Manitowoc's

Michael Emme, Al Schlafer, Sussex, and Lomira's Troy Wondra.
