Danny Peoples Makes It Two in a Row at TST!
Talladega, Alabama-Margaret, Alabama's Danny Peoples picked up his second
consecutive win of the 2001 season at Talladega Short Track with a
dominating performance in the Kilpatrick Chevrolet Super Late Model
division. Action began with Peoples setting fast time during
AmMotorsports.com Pole Qualifying with a fast 13.69-second lap around the
3/10's mile high-banked clay over a over a twenty-one car field of Super
Late Model pilots. Peoples would draw a six for the field inversion for the
Quick Six Dash for Cash to determine the starting order for the 30 lap main
Peoples would come from the rear to win the six-lap dash and earn the Pole
for the main event followed by Chris Mullinax, Bubba Lackey, Stacy Holmes,
track record holder Jimmy Hudgins, with Bo Shirley not being able to start
Danny Peoples would put his Peoples Racing; Vinson Race Engines powered TNT
Monte Carlo out front during the 30 lap main event to claim another
checkered flag at TST. Birmingham's Chris Mullinax would continue his banner
season with a string second place run followed by Munford's Stacy Holmes,
Bubba Lackey with a fine top five run, and "The Rim Rider" Ross Martin in
fifth. Completing the top ten were veteran Jerry Goodwin, Jimmy Hudgins,
Eastaboga's Carlton Freeman, Oxford's Terry Smith, and Tim "The Racerman"
The Sportsman division had a new 2001 winner visit Victory Lane as Oxford's
Jeff Johns held off "The Boaz Bullet" Tim Busha for the win over another
large field of Sportsman racers. Springville's Heath Farmer continues to
improve and had a strong third place finish followed by Stevie Waters, and
Anniston's Gary McDonald.
The IMCA Gulf Coast Region Modified win went to Anniston's Scottie Hiett who
has quickly regained form after some time off from racing. Danny Cosby was a
strong second after leading up to the very end and Carl Hickman was third.
Completing the top five were Petie Poe and Georgia's Tim Chastain.
The Southern Region IMCA Stock Car main event went to Steven Forsythe
followed by "Chargin'" Charlie Chapman, Johnny Ford, Tommy Shelnut, and
Jonathan Chapman earned the Pony Stock win, over another large field of cars
as he was followed by Randy Martin, John Bearden, Tim Thorton, and Chris
Knight. The Two Person Cruiser Victory went to the team of Goble and
Talladega Short Track will host a Full Racing Program this Saturday night
June 9th. Talladega Short Track will host the 2nd Annual Alabama Governor's
Cup for the Southern All Star Super Late Model Series on June 16th. The
60-lap Championship event will pay $5,000 to win for what will be a stellar
field of drivers.
