Dirt Track fans were treated to another Saturday night
of competitive racing at Friendship Speedway in Elkin,
NC this week. Although the clouds loomed most of the
evening the rain held off and set the scene for an
evening of classic dirt racing thrills.

Derrick Mathis of North Wilkesboro, NC, in his Rick's
Wood and Mulch Mustang fought his way from his sixth
place start to take the Semi-Modified 4 Feature win.
Mathis held off a strong challenge by Sandy Martin,
who worked his way from an eighth place start, through
a competitive field to finish second. Steve Faw
finished third, with pole sitter Junior Welborn in
fourth and Gary Bunton finishing fifth.

In Pure Stock action Jimmy Grimes took an early lead
but was overtaken by Traphill, NC's Marty Billings in
his Emily's Mary Kay, Danny's Automotive Camaro.
Billings held out for the win forcing Grimes to settle
for second. Another strong run by rookie Paul West put
him in the third place spot, with Aaron Hill fourth
and Mickey Anderson fifth.

Pilot Mountain's Keith Holder, in his Friendly Car
Company, River Road Racing Monte Carlo, passed race
leader Noel Tucker in the early laps and persevered to
win in the Late Model Feature. Mike Chilton, starting
from the rear of the field dove underneath Tucker on
the white flag lap to capture second with Tucker
finishing third. Kevin Gwyn and Chad Paxton rounded
out the top five.

In his Fleetwood Homes, Stratford Hearing Aid Center
sponsored Monte Carlo; Joel Bray of Hamptonville, NC
took down his third Sportsman Feature win in a row.
Challenging Bray intensely throughout the event, Terry
Zachary netted a second place finish. Raymond
Pennington, Gary Barnes and Daniel Moss finished
third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Bryan Nance of Ronda, NC in his Winebarger Trucking,
The Junction Pontiac Grand Prix took down another
Limited Late Model win. Darren Sipe, who challenged
Nance early on, finished second with Jerry Farley
third. Jody Bowman finished fourth with Roger Nance
taking fifth.

The Mudslinger Division will premier at Friendship
Speedway next Saturday night featuring totally stock
