Hargrave wins Jackpot Junction opener in borrowed car
ARLINGTON, Minn. (May 26) - Tony Hargrave borrowed his father's car to win the opening race in the Jackpot Junction Series.
Hargrave, from Maplewood, totaled his on I.M.C.A. Sprint Car in a spectacular rollover the week before. His luck changed Saturday night, however, as Hargrave drew the number one starting spot, then led from start to finish in the first series event of 2001.
Bob Hildreth of Iowa Falls, Iowa, ran second, with Monticello's Dave Heskin third and Jason Tostenson of Winthrop in fourth,
John Nelson of Shoreview started alongside Hargrave in the front row and did his best to make a race of it, but fell back with mechanical problems. Defending national and series champion Kent Winters of Butterfield started in the sec-ond row but was sidelined when his engine gave out.
Hildreth and Heskin switched spots several times in the battle for second place, moving through lapped traffic while contesting the position. Tostenson notched the best series finish of his young career while Sid Denzer of Le Sueur made the biggest charge to the front, passing nine cars on the way to a fifth-place finish.
