Ostrowski Keeps Record Perfect in Smashing
Super Mod Finish at Plymouth
By Sheila Karstaedt
Pete Ostrowski, Milwaukee, claimed the WKTT sponsored EWSC A-Main in a spectacular fashion to make it 3 in a row
at Plymouth. The only caution of the race was on lap 1 for a spin on the track. Pole sitter, Kris Hansen, Manitowoc,
took the early lead until lap 6 when Plymouth's Tim Melis took over, riding the high line. By lap 10, Melis was upon
lapped traffic. Ostrowski was charging hard, chasing Melis for the win. They would change positions several times
until the last lap when the two of them touched, sending Ostrowski into the wall. Riding the wall, Ostrowski would
come across the line first only to have his car come to rest on the track. Paul Pokorski, West Bend, came across the
finish line in third and not having any place to go, hit Ostrowski's already wounded car sending both cars flipping.
Both drivers walked away with minor injuries and very sore. Following Ostrowski to the line would be Melis, Pokorski,
Hansen, Gary Laack, Glenbeulah, and KenJay Fiedler, Sheboygan Falls. Fast time was claimed by Ben Schmidt for
the second week in a row. The B-Main saw cautions on laps 1 and 4 for the car of Jon Schraufnagel, Lomira, spinning
on the track. Taking the win, quite convincingly, was Dennis Klumb, Grafton, followed by Tim McMullen, Plymouth,
Robert Enders, Cambellsport, Dave Becker, Greenbush, and Plymouth's Bob Brion.
The Limited Late Model Feature would see Kohler's Mark Zimmermann dominating from the pole to the finish. Lap 2
saw the yellow flag for the cars of Nate Winkel, Oostburg, and Kewaskum's Chad Espen getting together with Espen
coming to rest on the guardrail on the back stretch. Both cars would be taken off on the hook. On the restart, it was
Zimmermann being chased by Sheboygan's Dingel Brothers, Tim Carmen, Sheboygan Falls, Terry Goetsch,
Sheboygan, and Plymouth's Scott Haugstad. On lap 13, Zimmermann would encounter lapped traffic and smoothly
went on to win. Trailing behind Zimmermann at the checkered flag was Dingel, Carmen, JJ Walvoord, Oostburg,
(coming all the way from the back row), Goetsch, and Plymouth's Dan Dippel. JJ Walvoord would take home the
honors of fast time and the Bob Akright Memorial Hard Charger Award for the second week in a row. The Limited Late
Model Semi-Feature saw an exciting finish when the cars of Waldo's Don Singer and Jason Parrish, Waldo, got
together with Parrish's car coming to rest on top of Singer's. Both drivers also walked away uninjured. Winning the
race was Brian Caesar, Sheboygan, followed by Henry Dickmann, Sheboygan, and Cleveland's Jim Schmidt.
The Super Stock Feature saw an interesting start when the car of Brian Kaat, Plymouth, got sideways and flipped on
the front stretch after being hit. Kaat was also uninjured. Luke Scholten took the lead on lap 1 and didn't look back.
At the finish line it was Scholten, Newton's Mike Plate, Bob Duncan, Sheboygan, Brian Gilles, Plymouth, Mark
Scholten, Oostburg, and Elkhart Lake's Jeff Muehlbauer. Fast time was set by Doug Teunissen, Sheboygan Falls. The
Super Stock Semi-Feature was won by Belgium's Dan Holm.
Rich Miske, Belgium, is keeping his winning streak going, in the Mighty 4's , by taking home the checkered flag for the
third time in a row in as many weeks.
The last race of the night saw several clergy from area churches don racing attire and take to the track in the Super
Stock cars. Again, a flip on the track by an uninjured Ron Peterson. An exciting finish saw Rick TenDolle pass Luke
Schouten on the last lap to take home the checkered flag.
Racing resumes next weekend at The Sheboygan County Fair Park, Plymouth, with the night being sponsored by
Wisconsin Fans for Auto Racing, honoring the past members of the club. Also, on the agenda for next weekend,
EWSC will be taking its show to the Manitowoc Expo on Sunday. Racing is set to begin at 7:00. Directions to
Manitowoc Expo from Sheboygan: Take I-43 North to the Hwy 151 exit (by Holiday Inn). At the stop sign turn right and
go to the stop lights. Turn left at the stop lights and you will see the track on the left.
