ECKERT FINDS GOOD MEDICINE WITH WEST LIBERTY VICTORY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

WEST LIBERTY, IA - Rick Eckert of York, PA spent most of the day Tuesday
in
bed with the flu. But when it became race time for the United Dirt Track
Racing Association Pro Dirt Car Series at West Liberty Raceway, the UDTRA
point leader rose to the occasion. Eckert led all 50 laps for his second
win of the season, and his 11th top five finish in the first 15 events.

The $10,000 top prize was good medicine for Eckert, who at one point in
the
race had over a full straightaway lead on the field driving the Raye Vest
Rocket/Cornett Mustang.

The only driver who could get close to Eckert was the defending and
four-time UDTRA Champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN, and he needed
a
caution flag with 10 laps to go to do it.

Bloomquist tried to challenge Eckert for the lead on the restart, but by
lap 43, he pulled away from Bloomquist, who had to settle for second in
the
Miller Brothers Coal Warrior/Custom Mustang.

"I haven't felt good all day, but this sure makes me feel a little better,"
Eckert said in the winner's circle. "We had a little push in the middle
of
the corner, but late in the race, the track took a little bit of rubber,
and
that hooked us up to the finish. Things are going well for us. We're
leading the points, getting top five finishes, and we hope to carry our
momentum through this tour on into Bristol in two weeks."

Bloomquist said he feels he's got his early season problems behind him
and
that the best is yet to come this season for his team.

"We're pretty happy about the way we ran tonight, and we've found the
problem we had early in the season," Bloomquist said. "We had a bad bird
cage in the rear suspension that was binding up. Since we've got that
fixed, we're back to running the way we should be."

Bob Pierce of Oakwood, IL debuted a new Pro Power engine under the hood
of
his Murphy Trucking Rayburn Monte Carlo, and it carried "The Tall Cool One"
from the ninth starting spot to third place.

Steve Boley of West Liberty, IA drove the Ron Alpen Ford
Mastersbilt/Cornett Mustang to a fourth-place finish. Boley was also the
fast qualifier among the 45 entrants, turning the -mile clay oval in 20.023
seconds for an average speed of 89.897 miles per hour.

Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA rallied late in the race to bring his
Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket/Pro Power Grand Prix home in the fifth spot.
Rick Aukland of Zanesville, OH finished sixth in the Ostrom Painting and
Sandblasting Mastersbilt/Malcuit Grand Prix, and seventh spot went to Denny
Eckrich of Tipton, IA in the Precision Performance Barry Wright/Grove Grand
Prix.

Randy Korte of Highland, IL turned in his second top ten finish of the
season with an eighth-place effort in the Mid-Continental Fuels Larry
Shaw/Performance Monte Carlo, and Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR took
the
ninth spot in the JFR Graphics/Monday Motorsports GRT/Russell Baker Grand
Prix.

Rick Wendling of Hazelton, IA rounded out the top ten in the Dyersville
Sales Mastersbilt/AEM Mustang. Wendling started 19th, and his tenth-place
finish earned him the JE Pistons Hard Charger of the Race Award.

Eckert grabbed the point from his outside front row starting spot at the
drop of the green flag followed by Steve Francis of Ashland, KY in the
Valvoline/Mopar Performance Rocket/Stanton Dodge, Bloomquist, Boley, and
Eckrich. Pierce passed Eckrich for the fifth spot on lap three, and by
lap
10, Eckert had stretched out to a full straightaway lead.

On lap 12, Pierce, Eckrich and Birkhofer began a good battle for the fifth
spot, and 1997 UDTRA Champion Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR brought his
Petroff Towing/J&J Steel Rayburn/Clements Taurus from the 18th starting
spot
up to 10th by lap 14.

Lap 16 saw Bloomquist move up to battle Francis for second while they tried
to move around the lapped car of Ace Ihm of Hazel Green, WI in the Truck
Country Warrior/Custom Grand Prix. The first of two caution flags was waved
on lap 22 when Dan Schlieper of Pewaukee, WI cut down a left-rear tire on
his Performance Roofing Systems Rayburn/Pro Power Monte Carlo.

Eckert led Francis, Bloomquist, Boley, Eckrich, Pierce, Birkhofer, Aukland,
Moyer and Korte down for the restart. After the field went green, Eckrich
jumped the cushion in turn two, and fell back to the seventh spot. By lap
30, Eckert had once again packed his bags, turned in the key, and checked
out on the field with over a full straightaway lead.

Pierce was on the move by the 33rd lap, as he passed Boley for the fourth
spot, and then began to chase down the battle for second between Francis
and
Bloomquist. Pierce made it a three-car battle by lap 37. While in lapped
traffic on lap 41, Francis made contact with a lapped car and broke a tie
rod to bring out the caution flag.

Bloomquist and Pierce moved up on Eckert's rear bumper for the restart,
but
that was as close as they got, as Eckert pulled away on lap 43. In the
closing laps, Eckert began to smoke his right-rear tire coming off the
corners, but he was able to hang on for his second win of the season.

Eckert's win with Francis ending up 22nd, now gives Eckert a 183 point
lead
over Francis heading into the next event at the Dakota State Fairgrounds
Speedway in Huron, SD this Friday and Saturday with a $20,000-to-win 100-lap
main event.

Eckert picked up the $50 Scott Performance Wire Bonus Award with a second
heat race win, and Bloomquist pocketed an extra $100 from JE Pistons for
the
fourth heat race victory. Francis won the first Borla Performance 10-lap
Heat Race, and Eckrich took the third heat race win.

The 1996 UDTRA Champion Freddy Smith of Knoxville, TN won the Renegade
Transporters first 10-lap Consolation Race driving the Christenberry
Trucking and Farms GRT/Custom Monte Carlo. Moyer won the 10-lap Polaris
ATVs second Consolation Race.
