Black storm clouds looming on the horizon did not dampen the enthusiasm as fans and drivers gathered at Friendship Speedway in Elkin, NC Saturday night for another evening of Dirt Track racing action. As race time approached the sun broke through the clouds and Mother Nature offered another night of great weather.

In Semi-Modified 4 action Jamie Holcomb of Hamptonville, NC, in his Donaldís Automotive, Super Suds Car Wash Mustang, took the lead in lap 2 and held out to take the checkered flag. Tim Wyatt challenged Holcomb throughout the event only to have a strong running Derrick Mathis get by him on the white flag lap to finish second. Wyatt was third followed by Steve Faw in fourth and Eddie Blackburn in fifth.

Hamptonville, NCís Joel Bray starting from outside the front row in his Fleetwood Homes, Audio Unlimited Monte Carlo, put on a strong showing of horsepower to take the Sportsman Feature win. John Stamper, after pitting for a flat tire on lap 9, battled from the rear of the field to finish a strong second. Daniel Moss took third with newcomer to the Sportsman division, Jamie Holcomb finishing fourth and Gary Barnes in fifth.

Pure Stock action started out with a four-car pileup in turn 2 on the first lap involving eventual winner Paul West of Boomer, NC. West in his Piedmont Used Cars

Camaro, came from the back of the field to take his second win as a rookie. Andy Burchette, with his strongest run of the year, took second place honors with Aaron Hill, Fabian Anderson and Steve Payne finishing out the top five.

Mike Chilton of White Plains, NC in his Surry Chemicals Inc.Grand Prix took his first trip of the season to Victory Lane after holding off Keith Holder and Chad Paxton in the Late Model feature. Holder and Paxton finished second and third respectively with Bryan Nance in fourth and Jerry Farley in fifth.

Action takes a different twist next week, May 19, as Friendship offers their first Enduro Race of the season. The first annual Sonny Stutts Memorial Enduro Race along with a Semi-Modified 4 feature will make up the program. Admission will be $6.00 at the gate. Another upcoming event fans want to put on their calendars is a "Powder-Puff" race on May 26.
