Cozze And Michael Do Mom Proud At New Egypt

New Egypt, NJ (May 12) - Wind Gap, PA's Frank Cozze broke a three-race
string of second-place finishes to score in the Modified feature, while Sean
Michael of Allentown, PA, aced the 25-lap URC Sprint car event during New
Egypt Speedway's Mother's Day Bouquet on Saturday night, sponsored by
Flowers by Addalia.

"I've been to a lot of race tracks - almost every one on the East Coast --
and I don't know of any other track I've had more fun at," said the veteran
Cozze, who became the track's 23rd different Modified winner.

The 25-lap Modified fray was red-flagged on lap 7, with a four-car pileup in
turn 1 that eliminated the division's biggest threat, Billy Pauch. Cozze
shot from deep in the pack on the restart to show fourth by lap 9, third the
next tour. By lap 11, Cozze was second; he completed the lead pass, over
Mike Hendershot, three laps later, and cruised out front for his first New
Egypt victory. Keith Hoffman and Brian Weaver tussled right to the line for
second, finishing in that order. Hendershot and Rick Grosso Jr. completed
the top five.

Two-time URC Sprint champ Sean Michael used his track experience to overtake
novice Kevin Welsh on the white-flag lap and became the club's fifth
different winner in five events run this season. Welsh, in a great rookie
run, settled for second, with Mike Haggenbottom third, Matt Gerber fourth
and Greg Coverdale in fifth.

Matt Papiez of Belle Mead, NJ, charged past a strong Stan Ploski III with
two-to-go to score his first of the year in the 15-lap Sportsman feature
event. Ploski, Doug Liedl, division point leader Ryan Godown and Rich
Scagliotta followed Papiez at the finish line.

The 15-lap Street Stock feature event was won by Manville, NJ's Rich Page
Jr. for the second week in a row. Page held off a determined bid by Pat
Freiberger for the victory, with Pat Conaway, John Hewitt and Ralph Gargiulo

"The Tidal Wave" hasn't crested yet, as Dave Seip of Hightstown, NJ,
dominated the Mid-State Communications Rookie Sportsman series to ink his
fourth win in six tries.

The Herman's Trucking Lightning Lap Awards for fastest lap in a feature
event were won by Cozze (Mods, 20.150), Papiez (Sportsman, 19.166) and Page
(Street Stock, 22.016).

As part of the track's Mother's Day program, the first 400 Moms through the
gate received a caranation, courtesy of Flowers by Addalia, of Toms River
and Forked River, NJ.

Next week, it's Graduation Day for the Mid-State Communications Rookies.
They'll end their series with an extra distance/double point race on the
card with big-block Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks. Racing starts at
5:45 p.m., with gates opening at 3 p.m. Adult admission is $13, children
7-12 are $4, and kids 6 and under are free. For more information, call the
track at (609) 758-1900.
