HARRY REED TAKES DOUBLE POINT WIN IN 50-LAP MODIFIED RACE
IN COORS LIGHT/NAPA AUTO PARTS RACING SERIES
AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Modified stock car driving veteran Harry Reed held off
several restart challenges while stretching his advantage at other times to
win the Downs Ford Motorsports 50-lap main event at Wall Stadium Saturday
night. It was the Freehold veteran's first win of the young season and kept
him in the thick of the fight for the Neptune Research point lead with the
double points offered.
Charlie Kremer, Jr. of Toms River was the contest's first leader, before
Keyport's Frank Boardwick, Jr. took command. Reed was quick to advance to
second, however, and he applied pressure to the leader until taking command
on the 13th circuit. Reed then fought off Boardwick and later Tim Arre of
Toms River and Howell's Jimmy Blewett through a flurry of restarts forced by
minor incidents before crossing the finish line first.
Blewett was second at the stripe, while Boardwick was third and team
mates Ronnie Mullen of Brick and John Cambra of Bayville were impressive in
finishing fourth and fifth.
Defending NGK Spark Plugs Pro Stock champion Rob Williams of Farmingdale
wrestled the lead away from Kenny Reaves of Piscataway and then raced to
victory in the 25-lap companion main event. George Andretta of Neptune tried
frantically to take the lead before finishing second, while Chas Okerson of
Freehold, Farmingdale's Jim Vogt and Jackson's Ray Gastelu were third through
Defending Garage Door Express Street Stock champ Larry Thompson of Parlin
took the lead on lap eleven and then held off Craig Wallis of Farmingdale for
a 20-lap victory. John McCormack of Farmingdale, Rich Gould of North
Brunswick and early leader Greg Miranda of Hazlet wrapped up the top five.
Chris Schmidt of Marlboro took his first win of the year over Steve
Naylor of Absecon and defending champ Tim Buckley of Marlboro in the
20-lapper for the Monmouth Truck Equipment Truck Series. Tim Henry of
Schencksville, Pa. was the winner of the 20-lapper for the Weiss' Boots &
Apparel Legend Cars over Charlie Hubbard and Shawn Emmons.
The shore speedway features its first double-point 50-lapper for the
Modifieds this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Joining the Downs Ford Motorsports Night
action will be the Pro Stocks, Street Stocks, Truck Series and Legend Cars in
regular distance main events.
Wall Stadium is located on Rt. 34 in Wall Township, N.J. just a mile north of
Garden State Parkway Exit 98 and Interstate 195 Exit 35B. The speedway
