BLOOMQUIST BREAKS UDTRA SLUMP WITH GAFFNEY WIN
Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN passed UDTRA point leader Rick Eckert of
York for the lead with three laps to go, and went on to post his first
United Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar Series win of the season
Saturday night at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC.
Throughout most of the 50-lap $10,000-to-win event, it was a classic
wheel-to-wheel battle between two of the nation's best dirt late model
talents that kept the 8,000 race fans, the second largest crowd in the
44-year history of Cherokee Speedway, on their feet.
Running just inches apart, Bloomquist passed Eckert for the lead on lap 37
in turn three of the ½-mile high-banked clay oval, but the move was negated
by a caution flag. Bloomquist picked up where he left off after the restart,
and passed Eckert in the same spot, with the same move on lap 48.
