BLEWETT AND ARRE ARE WALL MODIFIED WINNERS AS TEN MAIN EVENTS ARE CONTESTED
IN COORS LIGHT/NAPA AUTO PARTS RACING SERIES AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Modified stock car drivers Jimmy Blewett of Howell and
Tim Arre of Toms River were just two of the main event winners on Saturday
night at Wall Stadium when ten main events were presented for Coors
Light/NAPA Auto Parts Racing Series competitors. A large crowd was on hand
for a wild evening of action that featured five main events that were rain
postponed from April 21 and five that were regularly scheduled.
In the first Neptune Research Modified 30-lapper, Freehold's Robert
Schlechtweg was the initial leader, but he soon had to fight off the
challenges of Blewett and defending champ Dave Michel of Manahawkin. The
turning point in this one came on a lap five restart when the front runners
tangled and Michel's race car nearly vaulted the second turn rail. Blewett
then picked up the lead on the initial restart, leading Schlechtweg, Arre,
Dave Garfinkel of Absecon and Freehold's Harry Reed to the finish.
Schlechtweg was again the early leader of the regularly scheduled
Modified 30-lapper as he paced the field through the first half of the
contest. Arre and a host of others were marching through the pack, however,
and they arrived at the front near the 20-lap mark and wasted little time in
taking the top spots. Arre then raced to his first win of the year, while
Michel posted an impressive comeback by finishing second. Garfinkel,
Schlechtweg and Brick's Ronnie Mullen were third through fifth.
The NGK Spark Plugs Pro Stocks also battled in twin 25-lap mains with
Charlie Kremer III of Toms River and defending champ Rob Williams of Toms
River coming out on top. Kremer led the first feature from start to finish
and held off Farmingdale's Jim Vogt and Jackson's Ray Gastelu for the win.
Williams took the lead early in the second 25-lapper outdistanced Freehold's
Chas Okerson and Gastelu.
Charlie DiGiantamasso and Greg Gastelu, both of Jackson, were winners in
twin Garage Door Express Street Stock features. Brick's Shannon Mongeau
actually crossed the finish line first in the initial 20-lapper, but failed a
post race inspection handing the win to DiGiantamasso. Greg Miranda led much
of the second 20-lapper, before spinning late in the race and handing the top
sport to Gastelu.
Ken McGowan of Oceanville and Jerry Stanzione of Keansburs were winners
in two Monmouth Truck Equipment Truck Series feature events, while Ben Seitz
of Skillman and Hackettstown's Jason Rochelle were winners in two Weiss'
Boots & Apparel Legend Cars main events.
The shore speedway features its first double-point 50-lapper for the
Modifieds this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Joining the Downs Ford Motorsports Night
action will be the Pro Stocks, Street Stocks, Truck Series and Legend Cars in
regular distance main events.
Wall Stadium is located on Rt. 34 in Wall Township, N.J. just a mile north of
Garden State Parkway Exit 98 and Interstate 195 Exit 35B. The speedway
