Conneaut, OH (April 27) - Topping a field of 42 cars, **** Barton from Ashville, NY nabbed the opening night feature win at Raceway 7 Friday night. Barton's victory in the 25 lap Maloney Tool and Mold Super Late Model event was his 23rd career victory at Raceway 7, moving him to third on the All-Time Late Model Win List.

Other opening night winners were Jim Dandy, Jr. from Niles, Ohio in the Jay's Auto Wrecking Steel Block Late Models, Brent Rhebergen from Clymer, NY in the MHC Inc. E-Mods, and Mike Hochschild from Ashtabula, Ohio in the Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks.

In the 25-lap feature for the Maloney Tool and Mold Super Late Models, it was Mark Banal and Dale Applebee drawing front row starting positions. Banal took the lead at the start, before a lap 2 yellow flag slowed the pace. Fourth starting **** Barton moved up to challenge on the restart, making the pass to lead lap 3. A lap 7 yellow flag waved for a spinning Ron Davies, who had raced through the pack to seventh after starting last in the 24-car field. Banal faced a challenge for second on the restart from Dan Armbruster, with Armbruster making the pass on lap 9. A final caution period on lap 11 bunched the field for the last time, but Barton would control the field over the remaining distance in posting opening night honors. Armbruster stayed within a few car lengths of the leader, but never seriously challenged in settling for second. Banal raced home in third position. A last lap battle for fourth involved two cars racing back through the field, after being involved in lap 7 incidents. Ryan Markham made the pass to take fourth place from Davies. Rob Blair started 22nd on the grid, and charged to finish sixth, as Chris Hackett, Rich Gardner, Rick Isadore, and Dutch Davies completed the top ten. With 42 cars in competition, Qualifying Heat Race winners were Charlie Duncan, Gardner, Matt Urban, and Armbruster; with Hackett and Blair winning the Last Chance Races.

Jay Watson and John Buzzard led the 20-lap Jay's Auto Wrecking Steel Block Late Models to the green flag, with Watson gaining command. Tim Glass posed a strong challenge through the early laps with Watson still able to lead the way. After a lap 9 yellow flag period, it was Merle Terry moving up to challenge. Terry made the pass to take the lead on lap 11, but a slip off turn four allowed Watson to regain the lead on lap 12. Doug Eck and 13th starting Jim Dandy Jr. had joined the race for the lead before a lap 16 yellow. A victim of tight racing on the restart, Terry went hard into the front stretch wall, which heavily damaged his car. Dandy moved to second place on the restart, and pulled up to challenge Watson. The lead cars raced side-by-side on the final lap, with Dandy making the pass to post the victory. His win came driving the number 75 car owned by Jim Davis. Watson settled for a close second, ahead of Eck, Glass, and Bill Henry. Heat Race winners were Eck, David Hess, and Glass.

The 20-lap MHC Inc. E-Mod feature was a wild affair, starting with Shawn Shingledecker and J.B. Dandy up front. Two attempted starts were aborted due to a Shingledecker spin, and a backstretch wreck involving Mike Hess and Bill Watson. Watson, the defending division champion, was finished for the evening with heavy damage to his car. Dandy would lead the first two rounds before spinning on lap 2. Jeff Shank assumed the lead on the restart, before tenth starting Todd Roncaglione took over on lap 4. Roncaglione pulled to a big lead before a lap 14 yellow slowed the pace. Hugo Litwiler, from 19th starting position, posed a brief challenge on the restart but Roncaglione pulled away again. On lap 18, Roncaglione spun out to drop him from the lead. With a two-lap dash to the finish, Litwiler had his hands full with a challenge from Brent Rhebergen. Racing for the lead off of the final turn, the two cars made contact with Litwiler spinning, and eventually rolling over. Rhebergen escaped the incident to score the win, ahead of 22nd starting Ron Roncaglione. Hess came back through the field after the first lap incident to finish third, ahead of Shank and Jim Frontz. Heat Race action saw wins go to Ryan Goff, Watson, and Hess.

Opening night honors in the 15-lap Fame Manufacturing Street Stocks belonged to Mike Hochschild. Drawing the pole position, the second year driver led the entire distance to post the feature win. From 15th starting position, Brian Douglas raced through the field to finish a close second, posing a challenge after a lap 13 yellow flag. Darrell Bossard drove a solid race to finish third. Russell Cressley was fourth, with Ted Westover fifth. Heat winners were Hochschild and Chuck Sullivan.

Racing action will resume at Raceway 7 on Friday night, May 4, with another four- division program of racing. The gates open at 5:30, with the first race at 7:30.
