COCHRAN IS WALLY WORLD

COCHRAN, GA - Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR made the right tire choice,
and made it stick on the start. He led all 50 laps to pick up the $10,000
top prize on Friday night in the United Dirt Track Racing Association Pro
DirtCar Series event in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Cochran
Speedway.

Wallace put his JRF Graphics/Monday Motorsports GRT/Russell Baker Grand
Prix on the point in turn one from the pole position and outran Randle Chupp
of Knoxville, TN to the checkered flag. The victory moved Wallace up to
fourth in the UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series point standings.

"Hoosier brought some great tires here, and we picked a little bit
different one than Randle did, but I guess it was the right one," Wallace
said. "The start was the key to winning this thing. We really concentrated
on that, and we got the lead in the first turn."

Chupp could get close to Wallace as the leaders worked lapped traffic,
but
Wallace was able to open up a half straightaway lead on the 4/10-mile clay
oval at one point in the race. Chupp had to settle for second in the
Biscotti's Restaurant Rocket/Draime Monte Carlo.

UDTRA point leader Rick Eckert of York, PA took the third spot in the Raye
Vest Rocket/Cornett Mustang. Eckert was also the fast qualifier among the
32 entrants with a lap 15.918 seconds for an average speed of 90.464 miles
per hour. Eckert extended his point lead over Steve Francis of Ashland,
KY
to 41 points.

The defending and four-time UDTRA Champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg,
TN finished fourth in the Millers Brothers Coal Warrior/Custom Mustang.
It
was the best finish of the season for Bloomquist after the first 11 UDTRA
Pro DirtCar Series events in 2001.

Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL made a late race charge to take the
fifth spot in the Dunn-Benson Ford Rocket/Eatmon Mustang. Pearson was able
to pass Francis for the spot with nine laps to go. Francis finished sixth
in the Valvoline/Mopar Performance Rocket/Stanton Dodge RT.

Jimmy Mars came home seventh in the Parker Store Mastersbilt/Pro Power
Monte Carlo, and Randy Korte of Highland, IL claimed eighth in the
Mid-Continental Fuels Larry Shaw/Performance Monte Carlo. Dan Schlieper
of
Pewaukee, WI was ninth in the Performance Roofing Systems Rayburn/Pro Power
Monte Carlo, and 1999 UDTRA Champion Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA rounded
out the top ten in the Larry Shaw Race Cars Larry Shaw/Hatfield Grand Prix.

The event was slowed by only two caution flags. The first came on lap
22
when Dennis McDaniel of Macon, GA spun the Badcock Furniture Stinger/Turk
Monte Carlo in turn two. McDaniel was also charged with the second caution
flag with a second spin in turn four on lap 40.

During the second caution period, Jason Fitzgerald of Jacksonville, FL
pitted his Southeast Electrical Contractors Warrior/Fox Monte Carlo and
asked for medical attention. Fitzgerald had to be transported by ambulance
to a local hospital for a non-racing related medical problem. This
necessitated a red flag until another ambulance could arrive at the track.

Fitzgerald was credited with a 17th-place finish which after starting 24th
earned him the JE Pistons Hard Charger of the Race Award. Wallace won the
Scott Performance Wire $50 Bonus Award with a first heat race win, and
Bloomquist won the JE Pistons $100 Bonus Award with a win in the third heat.
Chupp won the second 8-lap Borla Performance heat race.

Bill Godowns Jr. of Louisville, GA driving the Newby Racing Newman/Clements
Monte Carlo was awarded the win in the 10-lap Renegade Transporters/Polaris
ATVs Consolation Race. The apparent winner, Ed Basey of Augusta, GA, was
found light at the scales in the Blair Construction Newman/Clements Monte
Carlo.

The UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series now moves to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney,
SC
for a Saturday night 50-lap $10,000-to-win program. The schedule for this
Saturday night will have the pit gate opening at 1 p.m., with the grandstand
gate opening at 4 p.m.

UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series hot laps are scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with Time
Trials and racing events to follow. The UDTRA cars will compete in heat
and
consolation races with the finale being the $10,000-to-win 50-lap main
event. For race day and ticket information call (864) 489-1969. Cherokee
Speedway is located just south of I-85 at exit 96.
