"Driven" by patience, passion and pride Dave Murdick's #61 Modified found
victory lane at Don Martin's Lernerville Speedway after a ten-year draught,
Murdick of Butler, warded off a hard charging Brian Swartzlander to collect
his career fourth Ferrante Oldsmobile Modified victory. Defending Triangle
Gasoline Sprint champion David Scott of Garland put the Denny Chase #3 in the
winner's circle for the first time this season as did John Flinner of
Zelienople in the Friedman's Supermarket/Bi-lo Foods Late Models and Jeff
Walters in the Dingbats Restaurant Pure Stocks.

It was "trip fours" this evening for Carl Murdick; his fourth start this
season, fourth time in the top four, and fourth career victory in the
Ferrante Oldsmobile 20 lap Modified main event. Starting on the outside pole,
Murdick drove an impeccable race going the distance in his Troyer built
Chassis, formerly owned by Danny Johnson, to defeat the 2000-defending champ
Swartlander. Having come from eighth to the runner-up position,
Swartzlander's efforts to reel in the strong running Murdick were futile.
Murdick used the low groove in turn one and the cushion in turns three and
four to his advantage. Murdick's three previous wins came in 1991, 1990, and
1988 and he is now the current point leader by one digit over Swartzlander.
"I love Lernerville," exclaimed the 22-year veteran Murdick. Frank Guidance
ran a strong third and was followed by George Hobaugh, Bob Wearing Jr, Kevin
Bolland, Lonny Riggs, Del Rougeux, Carl Murdick, and Jeff Hoffman. Three
caution events occurred; two of them happened on lap two. The lap two yellow
was thrown for Randy Caldwell who spun in turn four and the next was for Gary
Risch whose #3 also turned around in the fourth corner. On lap five Carl
Weatherby violently rolled his Modified in turn three, went airborne and
landed in the pit fencing. He was not injured. Swartzlander, Rodney Beltz,
and Kevin Bolland won the prelims. It was the usual family affair for the
Murdicks. Dave's father Carl also drove a Modified, his sister Sheila, a
Sprint and her huband Gary a Sprint also.

It was defending Triangle Gasoline Sprint Champion David "the Great"
Scott all the way in the 20 lap feature to defeat Ed Lynch Jr. The Denny
Chase owned/Rod Johnson sponsored #3 survived two yellow flag events on laps
7 and 14 that closed the ranks. Each time the race started, Scott's #3D
looked like it was shot from a canon gaining a couple car lengths on his
"drag strip" starts. The hard charging Lynch made his way from twelfth to
take the second spot by lap ten but had to settle for second after winning
the two previous top events. Lynch leads the points over Hawley by 8 points.
The modest Scott said, "Once I saw the #2 on the scoreboard, I figured that
this race was over. This feels so good. It takes so much work and money to
get here." Jimmy Hawley made a strong surge in the latter part of the race to
earn third and Rod George came in fourth. Five through ten went to Kevin
Schaeffer, Ralph Spithaler, Andy Priest, Jamie Smith, Scott Priester, and
Eric Smith. Gale Ruth Jr, Smith, and Lynch were the heat winners and Leonard
Ripper won the B-Main.
John Flinner flew to his first 20-lap Friedman's Supermarket's/Bi-Lo Foods
Late Model win by keeping David Scott at bay. Before the races Flinner's
daughter requested a victory for her birthday and her dad delivered. In
victory lane Finner said, "Happy birthday Taylor." Flinner drove an awesome
race in the John Johnson Racing #48 coming from fourth to overtake leader Ken
Schaltenbrand on lap 3. Once in front, Flinner ran like a man possessed to
win. With two laps to go runner-up Scott came from twelfth to make a valiant
attempt to chase down Flinner but was not able to muster enough horses to do
so. Flinner retains a one-point lead over Scott in the point chase. Third
through ten went to Nick Jones, Lynn Geisler, Ken Schaltenbrand, Bobby
Bertges, Tom Kitchen, Gary Lyle, Bob Wearing Sr, and Chuck Kennedy. Flinner,
Scott and Wearing Sr captured the heat events and Dave Norton was victorious
in the B-Main.
It was a family event in the Late Model main. It was the first time that
a brother and sister ran a Late Model main. John and Cheryl Britsky finished
12th and 17th respectively. Bob Wearing Sr and Bob Wearing Jr were nineth
and eleventh in the same race.

Leading all the way Jeff Walters was the third different winner in the
15-lap Dingbat's Restaurant Pure Stock feature to defeat Chris Schneider. In
his new #18 racer, Walters out dueled a healthy 34-car field to record his
first victory of the season earning him the point lead. When he began racing
he said, "I took the car to John Flinner and told him to letter the car and
pick a number and he chose 18." Both of their numbers hit tonight. Joe Kelley
was third and Rob Kosecki, Joe Yakich, Scott Bockek, Paul Schreckengost, Dan
Bauman, Butch Lambert, and Rick Burris followed him. Yakich, Bochek and
Walters checkered the prelims and Randy Caldwell nabbed the B-main.
