RAHMER CONTINUES MASTERY OF LINCOLN SPEEDWAY
Fred Rahmer did it again.
The Salfordville speedster blasted from his 12th starting position and
methodically drove through the field to catch race-leader Darren Eash by the
14th lap. Then after having a pass for the lead negated on the 17th lap due
to a red flag, Rahmer then slipped under Eash in the third and fourth turns
on the restart and drove away to his sixth win in seven races at the Pigeon
Hills oval.
"There's a lot of them," Rahmer said after climbing out of his winning Al
Hamilton-owned Manheim Auto Auction No.77 sprinter in victory lane."Glenndon
(Forsythe), Billy Sims, Chris Knopp, a whole group of them...they keep
making my job harder."
Rahmer appeared to turn it up a notch on the 12th lap as both he and Eash
appeared to be tracking down race-long leader Forsythe. Forsythe suddenly
pulled a huge wheelie while coming down the frontstretch to complete the
13th lap and slowed momentarily - allowing both Eash and Rahmer the
opportunity to pass Forsythe with Eash taking over the top spot.
Eash then began to give Rahmer fits as he attempted to block his every
move. Rahmer appeared to pass Eash on the backstretch of the 17th lap for
the lead - only to have pass called back when Forsythe and P.J. Chesson
tangled in the third and fourth turn, with Eash given a second shot at
holding back Rahmer.
But Rahmer was not to be denied this night as he drove under Eash for the
lead one more time in the third and fourth turns of the 17th lap. From there
Rahmer left no doubt and led the rest of the way for his 105th career win at
Lincoln.
"Darren was running good enough tonight that when that red came out and I
had to get back behind him again I thought he's move up on the track," said
Rahmer on his battle with Darren Eash. "If he'd had done that I don't know
if I would have got him...he had to cover the bottom too because going into
one if he would have went to the top I would have just tried a flyer on
him."
Rahmer took the checkered 1.64 seconds ahead of Eash at the end of 25 laps
for his 105th career win at Lincoln. Rahmer's 262nd career super sprint win
was worth $2,500.
Ijamsville, Maryland's Darren Eash settled for a hard-earned second place
finish, with Bedminster New Jersey's P.J. Chesson following in third,
Hanover's Cris Eash fourth, and Bedminster New Jersey's James Chesson fifth.
Completing the top-10 were Hellam's Bobby Weaver, New Oxford's Steve Siegel,
Texan Ronald Laney, Spring Grove's Niki Young, and Mont Alto's Lance
Dewease.

Dover's Scott Ausherman averted near disaster on the 13th lap and
eventually raced away to an emotional first win in the 20 lap 358 sprint
feature. While running second, race-long leader Rick Horn and Ausherman
appeared to lock wheels exiting the fourth turn of the 13th lap - sending
Horn flipping violently down the frontstretch. Horn was uninjured, but done
for the night. Once inheriting the lead on the 13th lap Ausherman (who had
started ninth) then held off 10th-starting Eric Stambaugh of East Berlin
over the remaining laps to pick up an emotional win for car owner and close
friend Jimmy Strawsbaugh. Brian Eichelberger settled for third, with Billy
Dietrich fourth and Kevin Drury fifth.

Stoverstown's Mike Ziegler Jr. backed up his win from the week before by
passing Gary Potts on the ninth lap for the lead and led the rest of the way
for his second consecutive victory in the 20 lap thundercar feature.
Pott's, who started fifth, got a great jump at the drop of the green to
take the lead on the first lap with seventh-starting Ziegler pulling in
behind on the second go around. Ziegler eventually was able to slip around
the Stoverstown racer for the lead on the ninth lap and had to fight him off
the rest of the way in picking up his division-leading third win of the
season - and the fifth of his career at Lincoln. Potts settled for second,
and was followed by Neil Smith, Nat Tuckey, and Allan Cullum.
