Once Again Its McFarland
Not to anyones surprise, a full house at the Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas Va. saw Mark McFarland standing in victory lane once again this season, as he took home the checkers for the second time in as many weeks in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model Stock Car 75 lap feature. Starting from a familiar spot in the lineup, McFarland made his way through the field from his sixth starting spot, and passed early leader and teammate Clarke Simpson on the outside at the mid point of the event. From that point on it was a battle for the runner-up spot between Simpson, Ricky Exline, and Eric Corbett. McFarland was also the Lustine Chevrolet Quick Qualifier, circling the 3/8 mile oval in 15.603 seconds, just a shade faster than the second quickest Mark Jenkins with a 15.654 lap. 22 Late Models took the green, and after the 75 lap event was complete, only 1 car had retired.
In the first 100 lap event of the season for the Redman Fleet Service Grands Stocks, Chris Donnelly from Stafford took control early and never looked back, as he dominated the 100 lap event. Runner-up finisher Jimmy Hardin was able to close in the waning laps, but was unable to challenge for the win. Rounding out the top 5 were Willard Lawrence, Bryon Short, and Tome Rice.
Other racing action saw Bill Briggs from Spotsylvania Va. pick up his first ever feature win in the 30 lap D&K Electric / Aldie Construction Mini Stock feature, and veteran Dave Gibbs took home the checkers in the 25 lap Gaston Automotive Speedway Sportsmn feature.
Next Saturday night the schedule includes twin 35 lap features for the Late Models, twin 25 lap features for the Grand Stocks, a 30 lap feature for the Mini Stocks, a 25 lap feature for the Speedway Sportsman, and the Baby Grands make a return visit to ODS. Lustine Chevrolet Quick Qualifying begins at 5:15 PM, with racing set to take the green at 7:00 PM.
