Quincy MI (April 21, 2001) It looked as though Mother Nature was going to take the opening night racing program at the Butler Motor Speedway but with the help of the drivers and track crew the track was in racing shape by the 7:30 starting time.
In the feature event Randy Patton jumped out to the early lead from his outside front row starting position and led the first two laps before 2nd row starter Larry Kulikowski took the lead. 2000 Track Champion Eric Wilson was closing in on Kulikowski and tried to use the high side to get around for the lead. Wilson was unable to make that work.
On lap 9 the leaders were up to lapped traffic and Kulikowski used this to his advantage to widen the gap between himself and Wilson. Wilson would go off the track with mechanical problems 2 laps later. A lap 13 caution bunched the field with Kulikowski still leading and Jacob Rendel moving up to 2nd followed by Don Kittle.
By lap 15 Kittle made his way around Rendel for the 2nd position. Albion Michiganís Larry Kulikowski would take the easy win over Kittle, Matthew Lewis, Jacob Rendel and Kevin Grifka.
Heat races were won by Rusty Schlenk, Larry Kulikowski & Eric Wilson with Jarrett Rendel taking the B Main.
Next Saturday night Butler will once again host the Street Stocks with a $300 feature prize. Sunday April 29th will be an open practice session beginning at 12 noon. May 5th will open the regular racing program of Sprints, Late Models and Street Stocks.
